Coartem for 21 days straight for Babesia?

I had a Dr prescribe the following for Babesia

* 1 Coartem tab 2 x day for first 7 days
* Then 2 Coartem tabs 2 x day for 14 days

For a total of 21 days straight. then followed by 8 weeks of Mepron, Zithro and Omnicef.

I can't find anything online about taking Coartem for 21 days straight, just 3 day burts every 2 weeks. Is this safe. Has anyone taken Coartem like this?

Coartem is a anti-parasite med. I stink when it comes to pharmaceuticals.

Hopefully someone with information will be here soon to help you. I just wanted to make sure you were welcomed.

Jaden, I also belong to the Facebook group Babesia Buddies. Most people in that group only take Coartem for 3 to 4 days followed by 10-14 days off and then repeat. However, there are some who do take it every day for lengthy periods.

I've noticed in that group that there are many variations in taking coartem. Some people are still taking antibiotics while on it. Others have to stop everything and some with severe babesia are taking coartem with another antimalarial.

It's very confusing and all our situations are different. I would just talk to your LLMD about your concerns so you feel comfortable with your protocol.

I agree with Lou. I've seen Coartem prescribed in various ways.

I took it twice:

Coartem – (2) tablets 2x/day five days on then 7 days off, and repeat. 1st rnd 9/21/13, 2nd rnd 3/10/14.


Glad I keep a good treatment log.

Coartem had little impact at the time. Bart was holding back my progress, and once I went after Bart for a third time, then sx improved to 80% or so.

Thanks Tick Bite! Interesting. I feel like Babesia is my problem, but the meds seem to have lost efficacy back when I was taking them, but they did work for awhile. I'm currently doing bee venom therapy. Maybe I do have bart. I have no idea. I DO know that I've tested positive for Babesia in the past, but never positive for bart. I know how testing can be though...
