Bartonella protocol skinny down?

Wanted to start taking some of the core herbs from Buhner's Bartonella protocol to see if they help. Given the below which ones are must have's? I know Buhner has must have's for the Babesia protocol not sure here. Thanks.

Japanese knotweed: tincture, 1/4 to 1/2 teaspoon 3xday
EGCG with quercetin: 800mg EGCG, 1200mg Q
L-Arginine: 500-1000mg 3xday
Cordyceps: tincture, 1/4 teaspoon 3xday, OR powder: 1 tablespoon 3xday, OR capsules: 2000mg 3xday
Sida Acuta:30-60 drops 3-4xday
Red root:Tincture, 1/4-1/2 teaspoon 3xday
Milk thistle seed: 1200mg day
Hawthorn: tincture 1/4-1/2 teaspoon 3xday
Rhodiola/Ashwagandha combo: equal parts 1/2 teaspoon 3xday
Isatis/Houttuynia/Alchornea(cordifolia) combo: Equal parts 1/2 teaspoon 3xday
Pomegranate juice: throughout the day
Vit E: 200IU or 150mg (optional)

Some people don't take the EGCG. (At least one person has mentioned she drinks green tea instead)

According to Buhner - those are the 'must haves' I would say.

Mine were added to my antibiotics...I didn't take them all. I took JK, Cordyceps, Sida, Milk thistle seed, Hawthorn, Rhodiola, Ashwaganda, Houttuynia.
I took the Pomegranate juice for a few months.

When I go back on them, I'm thinking I will add the Isatis/Houttuynia/Alchornea combo instead of just the Houttuynia.

Thanks Girlie. Reading up on them I was thinking the Knotweed, Sida Acuta, Hawthorn, Rhodiola, Ashwaganda, Houttuynia to start. I was thinking add minimum amount recommended herb 2x a day for a few days then go 3x day and see how I do. I've been able to take lots of certain herbs to start and had no reaction (e.g. Crypto 30 drops 3x/day and Sida 15 drops 3x/day). I'll know within a few days it its too much.

I did buhner's protocol and thinking I might have Bart only added Houttuynia. I was doing the rest as the core protocol. I did not do the EGCG either. And just to cover everything I added Cryptolepis in case I had Babs.

Here is his core protocol from his new book.

1. Protecting endothelial structures (pg 214) - Polygonum cuspidatum (Hu Zhang or Japanese Knotweed)

2. Cytokine remodulation (pg 214) - Salvia miltiorrhiza (Red Sage) and Scutellaria baicalensis (Skullcap or Huang Qin)

3. Collagen protection (pg 214) - Great lakes gelatin, Vit C, Selenium, etc

4. Immune remodulation (pg 215) - Unicaria tomentosa (Cat's Claw), Cordyceps mycelium (a mushroom), withania somnifera (ashwagandha), Eleutherococcus senticosus, Glycyrrhiza (licorice)

5. Antispirochetal (pg 215) - Andrographis

So, that's the new lyme protocol. His new book wasn't out when I did the lyme - I had to go by what was on his website.

I am taking everything in the protocol with a couple of exceptions/differences:

Instead of the Isatis, I'm taking 1/2 tsp Houttuynia 3x daily
Instead of EGCG, I'm taking Green Tea Extract

And, I take a lower dose of milk thistle because my liver numbers remain excellent.

Buhner's reasoning for the inclusion of all items just makes sense to me.

I do hope you're planning on starting one herb at a time in a low dose, Rikky.....just to play things safe. If you start several at one time and have an adverse reaction, you'll never know what's to blame and will have to re-start.

PeteZa is the newest Bartonella book the 1st Edition published in May 2013? If there's a newer one I haven't seen it on Amazon or anywhere else.

I've decided I'm going to take the following:

Knotweed
Cordyceps
Sida Acuta
Hawthorn
Rhodiola/Ashwagandha
Isatis/Houttuynia/Alchornea

I'm leaving out red root and milk thistle cause I'm already on Pekana Detox Kit and already take an L-Arginine supplement + I drink lots of green tea.

I plan on starting each herb (or combination per Buhner) and take it for 3 days at minimum recommended dosage. If I don't react I keep going. Here's to a successful experience!

The Bartonella book published in May 2013 is Buhner's only Bartonella book. PeteZa was referring to Buhner's new Lyme book.

You may know that Buhner recommends getting the entire protocol going at low doses before increasing. The reasoning behind this is to take advantage of the synergy of herbs - they enhance the actions of each other.

I think you have a great plan and wish you the utmost success!!!

about to order Buhner's Bartonella Protocol H & S's. Anyone know where I can purchase the EGCG 800 mg? I am not finding it on Amazon.

Is this to say that is you jump right into full dosages, it will affect the synergy between the herbs?

No - That's not what she's saying.


What she's saying is you start one herb and after you've taken it for a week or two at a LOW dose, you add the next herb, etc.

You get all Herbs in at low doses (maybe 5 drops 3x daily ) THEN you start to raise each herb .

Rather than starting with one herb and continuing to increase over several weeks (or months) to higher dose (1 dropperful 3x daily for eg.)before adding in the second one.. etc

This is because Buhner says they work synergystically - so you want to get all Herbs in at low dose and then raise each one - get them working together right away at low dose.

You don't want to start any of the herbs at full dose.

What are his must have's for babesia?

For bart I'd think it's knotweed, sida acuta, Houttuynia and cordyceps. He talks a lot about these hitting multiple parts of the cytokine cascade
