Capsules vs. Tinctures

As a herb newbie, I am now collecting different herbs and following Buhners protocol for Bart.

As I'm collecting these herbs, many of them come in both capsule and tincture forms. Every herb that has a tincture has a capsule version. But not necessarily every capsule herb has a tincture (from what I am seeing).

I'm also noticing that tinctures are much more expensive (per unit price) than capsules. Is there a reason for this?

Are tinctures more potent and/or effective than capsules, so it cost more?

I am willing to spend the extra money on tinctures if this is the case, however if it's the "same" then I'll just go with the capsules (in some cases).

P.S. Another thought I had is I'm already taking several things in pill form - Antibiotics, multiple nutritional supplements, milk thistle (pill form) and L-Arginine (pill form). It would be nice to switch it up and ingest herbs in a different form (I bought Japanese knot weed in tincture form).

Any insight is much appreciated.

I'm a "by the book" type of person. If Buhner recommends tinctures, I take tinctures. If he recommends capsules, I take capsules. In some cases, he recommends powder so I take powder.

Tinctures are the most potent form of plant medicine but different herbs are processed differently by the body and that's why Buhner recommends different forms at times.

Some people just can't take tinctures and they still heal.

We each need to find what works best for us.

I started out taking Green Dragon capsules - before I was diagnosed with lyme...but was suspecting it.


I stopped Buhner's after going on antibiotics.

Then I added them back in for some time - and switched to tinctures because I was already swallowing so many pills. (antibiotics and other supplements) . When you get to a high dosage with Buhner's - it's a lot of capsules to take.

So my reasons for tinctures vs capsules wasn't because of effectiveness.

You can get the EGCg 400 mg at most health food stores or online at iherb. I'm sure there are other online ones.

I use the NOW brand 400mg and take 2 capsules a day.

You can also get your EGCg from drinking green tea.

I use Buhner tinctures because it is so much easier for me than adding more capsules to all the supplements I already take.

For tinctures I buy from Woodland Essence in New York.
