Anyone have experience with this?

Do you have sx from them?

How were you dx?

Did you have them removed? how?

Or did you try to treat them with the oil cocktail? Did it work?

Any nuances or concerns with Lyme + co and/or tx?

Any connections with Lyme & co?

Have you had a hormone panel done? Do you know if you have a high estrogen level?

I haven't had fibroids (not that I know of anyway) but when we had our Health Food store many years ago, a friend who was in her 50's bought some Progesterone cream for her large fibroid...because she didn't want to have surgery to remove it.
She had read that progesterone cream could help.

In her case, it did, the fibroid did shrink over time (and I think completely went away - it's a long time ago so I can't remember) She didn't have surgery and had no pain anymore.

Maybe do some research on it. I can't remember if she applied the cream on the lower abdomen...or if the location even mattered. I'm thinking location does not matter...as it just needs to get into your bloodstream?

I believe it works because estrogen dominance can be the cause of uterine fibroids...and the progesterone balances that out

ETA - when I googled I did see some information that if the fibroids are of critical mass - then sometimes progesterone cream could cause them to enlarge.....

Do you know the size of the fibroids?

No - she just felt them. Having an ultrasound on Tues to determine where they are and if the location is a serious issue.

I don't know that I have sx other than the exam was painful. My progesterone was low a couple yrs ago. I didn't want to deal with any hormone creams at the time. I don't think estrogen has ever been off.

I'm not wild about surgical removal although one of the procedures seems fairly simple. She also mentioned hysterectomy. NFW. She mentioned they were generally not cancerous (which is helpful since I still don't have the biopsy back from last week) but also mentioned 3 times that you can bleed to death from them. She's pretty mainstream so I'm wondering if there are alternatives.

So, even if the estrogen isn't really high, if your progesterone is low, then the estro dominance can be an issue.


Yah, I agree about the hysterectomy - don't want to be removing body parts if you don't have to.

Before you bled to death, I would think you would be having symptoms of low iron .
..and you have been having CBC showing what your hemoglobin level is right?


Don't you just hate having these additional 'things' to deal with...on top of lyme and co's?

Been through this. I was diagnosed with an unidentifiable mass that had metastasized to my large and small intestines.
Surgery scheduled. I was 35. 2 surgeons. One, because it was near female parts and the other to cut out the section of intestines and give me bag on the outside. The bad news would be if they did a look see and just sew me up and tell me how long I had.
Surgery done. Mass removed. They had to take out the uterus to get to the tumor. Benign and there was nothing metastasized.

Mine was all brought about by pain. It was so large it was pushing on all kinds of organs. I was beyond the point of doing progesterone cream.

This surgery caused adhesions and 5 years later I had to be scoped and lasers were used to separate the scar tissue that had bound my parts to each other and my abdomen. Lovely!

That surgery could have caused more adhesions, but I took a chance..... Doing fine.

Yes, I was thinking that, too. LLMD gave me Rx for a cream but it had more than just progesterone in it and I didn't want to take it. Or I was going through my "F-it" phase - can't remember. But I just didn't want to start the ball rolling on messing w/ hormone levels when only one seemed off.

Yes, CBC is normal every week. And yes, I would THINK that I would be having other sx. She could tell the uterus was enlarged before palpating and I'm not sure how she did. I do feel some pain every now and then and certainly during the exam.

But you know how it is, sometimes sx compete for our attention and you just can't deal with everything at once. But other women I've talked to, statements I've read online - suggest pretty extreme conditions (non-stop bleeding and a lot of discomfort) so I am rather surprised by this.

She also became rather insistent that 3 yrs since my last mammogram was too long (I had a benign cyst rem'd at age 30 but nothing since, my mother and her mother both had breast cancer in mid-60s and both had double mastectomies although mom's was elective. I do not have BRAC gene.) And it occurred to me the next day that she might have felt something but didn't tell me. I thought I felt something the other day. But I understood that they are requiring mammograms less now days because they are not always helpful.

And - my biopsy came back as basel cell carcinoma, as I expected. And I just can't help wonder if it's connected....

Thank you - I was hoping someone would post some suggestions like that to give me a starting point for researching alternatives to removing organs and amputating body parts. Didn't these docs get enough experience on cadavers in school?

Thanks for sharing. Ugh... well, I'm glad you're here to tell the story and that like you said - you didn't spend time agonizing about not knowing. I don't think our bodies are supposed to be invaded like that - not only by cancer and pathogens, but by scalpel-happy surgeons. I am pretty suspicious that there is more going on. But - will just have to wait and see. I really don't have noticeable sx that I can't tie to Lyme & co or tx. It's just that woman's intuition.

P - Oh, I know too well about symptoms competing for attention ( 'pick me, pick me')

hmmm the mammogram - My last one was 2013...

I dislike adding anymore radiation to my body...I had a few X-rays, and one CT - trying to get diagnosed in 2013/2014. Also, don't like to squish them flat like that...wonder if that causes some sort of trauma to the tissue...that can't be healthy, either. (And, since my surgery...the scars are still sensitive)

I am thinking about having an MRI instead of a mammogram.
They cost $875 - but would I need two? One for each of the girls? or two for the price of one?

I had looked into thermography...but not sure if its reliable.

I did ask my Dr. if the mri's are as good as the mammograms for breast screening. She said that she knew one woman who had a lump show up on a mammogram...and she chose to have an mri after that...and they saw a second one. (as well as the first one).
That was the only experience my Dr. had with mri's vs. mammograms.

You might not need surgery.

There is another procedure called uterine arterial embolisation. You need to have the right kind of fibroid for it to work (it needs a good blood supply).

It has the advantage of not removing body parts, not putting you under a general anaesthetic, and not having a long recovery period. The risk of infection is also much lower because the only incision is a small entry wound into an artery in your groin.

The downside is that, in Australia, it is available only through a private hospital, and you need an expensive MRI beforehand.

I'd strongly encourage you to find someone who can at least assess whether or not the fibroid you have is suitable.

thanks ccc - I will find out more at the ultrasound on Tues. I don't like the gyn I saw. So I'll get the results of the ultrasound and find someone for a 2nd opinion.

I agree about the thermography, especially for dense, pre-menopausal breasts. If it suggests I need more investigation, I'll look into getting an MRI. There is a popular thermography place about 45 min from me so I feel fortunate.

From what I can remember, it is a lower risk, cheaper and faster-recovery procedure than a hysterectomy (the only option initially offered locally).

Here's some basic information from a Sydney clinic:

As with all procedures, find someone who does it all the time and who has a good track record. The people I saw treated only if they thought they thought the patient was 100% suitable (needs to be the right kind of fibroid).

That's one reason I chose the 5-hour each-way drive rather than someone local.

Hi I’m bumping this post in hopes of some of you stil being active on the boards. I’ll find out this upcoming Tuesday if I’m able to get the UFE done for my Fibroids in hopes of stopping the heavy bleeding I’ve been having. If anyone has any experience with getting a UFE done especially as a Lyme patient please let me know! One thing I’ve been wondering is should I go ahead and get the UFE done now or should I wait a few months until I’m off my antibiotics for Lyme treatment? Any suggestions?

take this with a grain of salt . a friend is in a similar position. consider that these fibroids are at least a response to inflammation from a pathogen ,be it lyme or likely bartonella cysts. and people's report of fibroids growing larger even after the blood flow is stopped . antibiotics have a better chance if they can be reached by blood flow . what is your platelets count ? any surgical procedures is trauma ...i would wait try crampbark some lumbrokinase to thin blood. keep us posted

In case he isn’t back to post - I’ll take a stab...

If there is Bartonella bacteria in your bladder and you stop the blood flow to the cysts - then those abx might have a harder time reaching the cysts to kill the bart bacteria

It’s a procedure - not surgery right?
And you’re awake the entire time?

Thank you Girlie I understand now! Yes it’s a procedure & you are awake the whole time just sedated I find out on Tuesday if I’m a candidate for it or not. Once they let me know I’ll contact my LLMD and get her opinion. The timing is awful! I just went back to work and can’t leave again but I can’t be bleeding this badly either. Thank you guys
