It's pretty common for Lyme & Co infections to reactiveate EBV. 90% of the adult population has EBV, for people with challenged immune systems, it's almost always active/reactivated.
I have had a lifetime of EBV dominating everything. And I've learned over the years that I need constant antiviral coverage. I made no progress w/ Lyme & Co until I got my load down.
The infections overload your immune system, and the viruses become more dominant. Your immune system can't fight everything effectively. And there are several overlapping symptoms, which can make navigating Lyme & Co treatment difficult, wasting time and money.
The best approach is to reduce viral load - either with Rx (if one doesn't work, increase dose or try another - I had to do both) or with natural antivirals. Here are some options:
Olive leaf
Oil of oregano
Licorice
Houttuynia
Ginger
Chinese Skullcap
Astragalus
(there are many other herbs that have anti-viral properties)
Provocation Neutralization
Samento
Here is more info on EBV that I think another member posted but I kept it in my notes:
EBV:
Epstein-Barr virus (EBV) has been one of the infectious candidates implicated in RA for several years. In 2004, Balandraud et al .[8**] summarized the present knowledge of the poor control of EBV infection in patients with chronic RA. The patients have higher levels of anti-EBV antibodies than do healthy control individuals. In addition, EBV-specific cytotoxic T cell function, which is needed for the control of the chronic infection, is defective in patients with RA; this probably causes the increased viral load observed in the patients. There is no good evidence in favor of the primary infection as a trigger of subsequent RA.[9]
The authors concluded, however, that on the basis of the above-mentioned immune aberrations, EBV would be a good candidate to trigger chronic immune complex disease. In fact, in a cohort of 45 patients with recent-onset RA, the patients produced increased quantities of immunoglobulins when their peripheral blood lymphocytes were stimulated by EBV in vitro .[10]
The enhanced response to EBV predicted the development of joint destruction (erosions) in the patients during the subsequent 2-year follow-up.[10] This is indirect evidence of an abnormal response to EBV, and in the case of EBV infection in a patient during the incubation phase of RA, this would be an indicator of a more persistent and destructive form of arthritis.most common cause of hypothyroidism in the U.S.maitake mushroom d- factor and thymic protein-alomatium, andrographis, reishi, licorice, isatis, Japanese knotweed, Chinese skullcap root, and fresh ginger root.
The organism also damages mitochondria and their function which is what leads to such low energy levels. The herbs specific for protecting mitochondria and their function are: cordyceps, motherwort, rhodiola, Chinese skullcap root, kudzu.
I would start with:
• Herbal tincture combination of: Chinese skullcap, licorice, isatis, and lomatium. Equal parts of each tincture mixed together, ¼ tsp 3x daily.
AND
• Tincture combination of: rhodiola, reishi, kudzu. Same dosage
AND
• Cordyceps 2000 mg 3x daily or tincture: ¼ tsp 3x daily (you can purchase from sagewomanherbs.com)
And do this for 60 days and see if it helps.
You may have to buy the herbs separately and mix them yourself or try woodlandessence.com or elkmountainherbs.com as sources.
