insomnia co-infection?

is there an opinion about whether it is lyme, or a co-infection that causes the most insomnia ( i am aware that cortisol issues play a role)

for the first 3 months of my treatment i slept 10 hrs a night (and was always tired during the day)...one day, all of a sudden, my symptoms changed and got insomnia and then digestive issues...

fast forward 10 months, where i was better, and now worse...after starting with houttania the insomnia came back along with a racing almost manic mind (along with aching toes, finger joints and lower legs, vibration in legs etc)- so im wondering if bartonella is the main cause...

when we knock one down/back (lyme), can a co-infection take its place in the front of the line according to symptoms?? thanks

I am having the same thing tonight, I just read that a major solar flare was hitting us about now...the moon shouldn't be causing any issues today. I wonder how many of us can't sleep or woke up...my gf also

I can totally relate.

I initially treated just Lyme, and made progress in eliminating symptoms, but then Bartonella reared it's head and my neurological symptoms worsened.

We added treatment for Bartonella, and as we made progress, my Babesia symptoms emerged. We had always suspected Bartonella, but not Babesia.

I just finished successfully treating Babesia after 6 months, and now we're returning to Lyme and Bart.

Like you, my symptoms -- including insomnia now that I never had before -- have changed during treatment. Overall, I am feeling better. But, it's a roller coaster trying to stay on top of it.

My LLMD said it's common for one infection to emerge as dominant as you are beating down another. From what you've posted, it would seem like you need to tackle Bartonella now.

I hope you feel better soon. Know that you're not the only one that has been on this winding road. It's frustrating, but as things change, I think we have a better idea of what we're up against and how to get past it.

thank you for your post...im pretty much at wits end...thought id get through this and move back on with my life, but realizing now this IS my life from now on....definite bart issues, which is the only one i didnt think i had....fooolish me...had been trying to treat with herbs and rife, as my llmd is sooo expensive, but maybe i gotta start with him again...thank you again for your comment

Could be anything. I've stopped trying to figure out which co-infection is causing my symptoms. I've had insomnia off and on forever. The best things for me have been epsom baths at night, lavender essential oil. When it gets bad, I take CBD oil - that calms down the twitchiness and helps me relax.

I have bad insomnia now and bad anxiety through the roof , looping mind, and can't settle, Tired and wired. Now depressed and don't wan to see anybody or do anything. Stopped working.

Have resorted to drugs bc went to see psychiatrist who understands Lyme somewhat. I just started Gabpentin at night for sleep..was Zonked today so she suggested I take it earlier, on 40 of Cymbalta, and she prescribed Ativan if needed. I could literally take the Ativan all the time but don't. I'm usually very holistic.

I am taking theanine, Gabs, Enlyte, going to start Lithium ornate tabs for anxiety, omega, adrenal calm drops, a B complex, Minocycline for the positive borrelia in my urine, and acyclovir for positive EBV.

This is so hard...

Bartonella/Bartonella Like Organism can cause some of this. For me, especially when I herx I get terrible insomnia and anxiety and I'm quite certain it is bart/BLO. It is brutal. I'm so exhausted and just want to sleep but pain/body discomfort are very strong. Wired tired is the worst. I haven't had such herxes to such a level in a while but when I start a new effective med it can happen and if I'm not careful in treatment pacing it can end up spiraling into continuous herx territory which burns me out.

Trying ketamine for anxiety and depression. I have never posted here but I had positive IGNEX test 2004 went to see a well known LLD in the Midwest for a year and half. Made some improvement then my only brother died unexpectly and I now have PTSD from his death and for five years suffered horrible grief that was a set back. I got colon cancer about two years after antiobitics (not sure if any connection). Thought I had made some progress and stopped doing any research on lyme but had two IGNEX tests that showed positive and one Advanced lab. Moved to NC three years ago and have not seen anyone I can say lives up to the title of DR I have a good MD in TN not LLD. Was recently dx with stage three kidney disease.
Now struggling with anxiety and bad insomnia. Doing Buhner herbs that has helped fatigue more than anything but I am not sure I can get through anxiety am currently doing ketamine (had four treatments) will see how it helps. Very expensive. Never had any coinfectons show up any commens welcome.

Tired of being up all night alone and lots of edema and anxiety. Anyone interested I my ketamine just ask. If anyone can recommend a LLD in north or south caroline TN please do so.

So sorry for your loss. I can see how that would set you back.

I have heard of Ketamine for pain but I didn’t know it could also help sleep issues.

You can send me an email - and I’ll see if I have some LLMD’s listed for the areas you’ve mentioned.

So far three has not been anything that helps insomnia. I have taken a half bottle of melatonin and done all the GABA l theone etc you can name and nothing helps. Drs here have put me on all th "crazy pills you xcan name" and after a day or two nothing helps.

I am currently living in NC but can travel to SC or VA even TN. We are trying to move back to TN and all my medical records are in storage in TN. I hope the MD I have in TN can send me my lyme tests.

Oh - yes - I see that. I haven’t heard of it for anxiety or depression either.
Is your MD suggesting it could help - or is it something you’ve read about?

I just recently read about it while doing a google for TMS that I had heard was new for anxiety/depression.

from what I understand ketamine has better results and some time soon there is suppose to be a new nasal drug called esketamine (I think that is what it is called)

Anyway for me anxiety/depression is not something I can wait around on. I don't think the good MD I have can understand this also. I don't have the perservince I used to. (Sorry for the typos)

The last ketamine was great but it does not last I am not sure how much it helps after the recommended six treatments but it is suppose to redo something about your neurotarnsmitors,

TMS? Transcranial Magnetic Stimulation? Or something else.

I am wondering how much of the anxiety is from the lyme and co-infections, and treating them will help alleviate it.
Having said that...you still need help in the meantime.


You mentioned Buhner herbs. Are you just taking the Lyme protocol? Bartonella can cause anxiety...are you going to add some of the bart herbs into your treatment?

I am not doing anything for coinfections because I don't know which ones to deal with, nothing showed up in IGNEX tests.
Any Dr that you can suggest please do so. I am so alone trying to figure out what to do or just give up.

Many of us don't have positive test results for the co-infections.

LLMD's often treat Bart and/or babesia anyway.

With herbals, no harm in adding in some bartonella herbs...then later babesia.


Sida Acuta is in both the bart and babs protocols.
Japanese knotweed is both lyme and bart.

Another herb for babesia is cryptolepis.

I am sorry for the loss of your brother, and I hope you can find some peace in small ways that can help you heal someday from your suffering.

Tryptophan, Uncaria rhynchophylla, Scutellaria baicalensis are all suggested by Buhner for anxiety.

Thanks for the kind replies. I have been taking Japanese Knotweed and it has helped to feel me to get much better energy. I even joined a gym and was working out with weights and cardio. Then the depression came on and I know exercise is suppose to help with it but I just could not go work out feeling so down.
I do plan on going back after I can get more ketamine treatments.
I started taking Tryptophan, 5htp, GABA, and every herb that Buhner mentions for insomnia. I took each of these in large doses and it seemed to help then things started to reverse and I started getting depressed before this it was anxiety. My MD said some of these things in high doses could cause depression. I have backed off them and went for the ketamine infusions. My MD is going to get me a prescription from and compounding pharmacy for the nasal ketamine. I have taken a half of bottle of melatonin and felt nothing.

I just don't understand this disease and how to fix my brain. I was treated in 2005 with antiobitcs for co infections but as mentioned they have never shown up and I didn't know which ones to try and treat.
