Just had appt w/llmd. Ehrlichia is still positive as is Lyme.

Doc says can't get rid of Lyme until Ehrlichia has been taken care of, so tomorrow I start Rifampin and Zithromax. Have been on Biaxin and Amoxixillin for past 6 months. Was on Doxycyline for a few months prior.

CD57 has gone up to 67 which is a plus. Doc thinks the lack of a bigger CD57 increase is likely due to Ehrlichia.

Can't remember what I posted last week on the subject but hope this answers questions from then.

careful with that rifampin it does more than the others. it'll bust open biofilms, hit persisters and very effective against gram negative bacteria like bartonella and brucella.

Rikki!, have you taken Rifampin? Anything in particular I should expect. Bad herx, etc??

How was it determined that Ehrlichis and Lyme are still positive?
Rifampin is a good antibiotic for Bartonella.

Are you saying the Rifampin is not good for Ehrlichia?

Good to hear your CD57 is going up. I'm still waiting for that and just added in rifampin myself. Will update if I see any progress

The testing isn’t reliable- Lyme for instance can show a positive WB even after you are in remission. And a negative WB doesn’t mean you are in remission.
What type of test is ehrichlia - was it a pcr?

That’s why we treat until symptoms abate.

Rifampin could be good for ehrilichia - I don’t know - I’ve read doxy is.

Good luck, RedLabel. I hope you see an improvement in your cd57 and am interested to hear how you do on the Rifampin.

Girlie, I still have significant symptoms in addition to the positive testing.

Don't think the Ehrlichia test was pcr but will have a look.

From Igenex site on testing those infections and interpreting results:
Limitations

A negative HME IFA test result does not exclude the possibility of E. chaffeensis infection.
A negative HGA IFA test result does not exclude the possibility of A. phagocytophilum infection.
Cross-reactions can occur among the Rickettsiaceae, including: Rickettsia, Ehrlichia and Anaplasma.
Results should be interpreted in conjunction with other laboratory and clinical findings.

That's good that your Dr. is looking at a clinical picture...not just testing.
...can you distinguish lyme from Ehrlichia? (I haven't read much about Ehrlichia symptoms)


Also wanted to mention - that's a good sign that your cd57 has risen to 64 from 12.

The Ehrlichia test is an HME IFA.

As for distinguishing between Lyme and Ehrlichia ... I have no idea at all what symptoms go with which infections.
