A little background: I've never tested positive for Lyme Disease but have been bit by a tick and have MANY symptoms for a long time - 10 years or so. I have had two Western Blot tests that each showed 1 band positive - the first was IGM p23 and the second was IGG p41. Recently I had a C6 Peptide test that was negative. The only concerning thing that showed up was a CD-57 test which showed my level to be 49. My doctor decided to put me on a 3 week trial of Doxycycline which i feel helped. I had a flare around the 1 week mark which lasted only a day. After the 3 weeks I felt overall improved. Now that i've been off the antibiotics for a couple of weeks I feel aches and pains and other symptoms creeping back. My blood was retested and still came back negative for Lyme and my CD-57 increased to 84. My doctor said although not 100% it's less likely that it's Lyme now since my test was negative and my CD-57 is in the normal range now.

I guess my question I should have asked was would the antibiotic treatment have killed off enough bacteria to allow my CD-57 to increase?

So now what? I feel a little left on my own at this point. I've also been exposed to mold in the past so maybe that 's something I should look into.

Many of us here, me included, have only had IgM 23 positive. Its pretty certain you have lyme when combined with your other symptoms and reaction to the low dose of Doxy. For recent bites you really need 200 mg of doxy twice a day for several month after all symptoms are resolved.

Just Doxy alone is very seldom enough to treat chronic lyme. All it seams to do is put Lyme into a dormant cyst mode, and it returns when no ABX is present.

The CD-57 is just another tool doctors use to help diagnose lyme. Don't put too much weight on lab results. Get to see a real LLMD. It may take months to get an appointment with a reputable LLMD in your area. In the mean time you should look into Steven Buhner's lyme treatment protocols. Get his second edition of Healing Lyme

I've spent quite a while reading about cd57, there are even genes that are associated with T-cells which are also measure in the cd57. At one time they thought cd57 only measures natural killer cells, ...nope. The roller-coaster effect of these cells is why this test is said to be unreliable - which is not a complete answer. Its actually very reliable, but these cell levels can change. However, You can not use this as a method to measure general pathogen/infection health.

Anyway, this part of your immune cells appear to not be stuck, which is good..

c4a and c3a compliments tests are a good all around set of inflammation immune markers to know, might do these. These are affected by lyme, mold, candida.

You had a known tick bite, right? (plus lyme symptoms thereafter) And band 23 positive - its a lyme specific band.
No need to question the lyme diagnosis.

But for chronic lyme (which yours is) you need more than a few weeks or months of doxycycline.


Have you looked into finding a LLMD to treat you?

Thank you tickbite666! It's hard not knowing for sure. There's no denying how bad i feel physically and it scares me to think of what it could progress to. So i am going to focus on trying to strenghten my body and try the herbal route.

That's what I think too Girlie. I'm looking into Drs now. I'm thinking about going to Dr. Jernigan at the Hansa Center since he is actually in the city I live in. I just don't want to waste time and money going to someone who can't help me.

Why do you not know - with your tick bite, band 23, and symptoms? Plus your reaction to doxy.

Maybe if you saw a LLMD for an evaluation..that would help?
