due to my anxiety and depression from lyme pushing me to a bad place I've strongly considered going on an SSRI or SNRI medication to help with the everyday stress and pain

has anyone had positive outcomes with medications in those classes while having lyme?

i have taken some depression medications in the past but not during my time with lyme

All I've been using every now and then is xanax

Pre-game I had good results from Prozac, celexa, and zoloft. Each worked very well for about 6 months then I switched to another. I could have cycled through that trio again but I decided to go off of them. There was hell to pay coming off but once off them I was good.

I've been thinking of going back on ssri or something else as my anxiety has been through the roof and none of the natural remedies can even touch it. I'm gonna try to ride it out as its easing a bit but it's good to have a plan b.

How does the Xanax work? Any rebound effect? I took a benzo a few years back for sleep, temazepam, horrible rebound effect for a measly 6 hours of relief.

SNRI (Effexor) withdrawal was more hellish than Lyme for me. I went on 150 mg of Wellbutrin to taper off and have been taking it since (2 years), but I don’t know if it’s really doing anything. I have sworn off ever going on a new antidepressant. It’s not worth it to me.

Babs and Bart anxiety and panic really gets at me sometimes. I found Tyrosine, 5-htp, GABA, all with B vitamins including B6, NAC, on a daily basis, CW hemp oil as needed, and deep breathing and a good cry can get me through most days. A food diary showed me that certain foods trigger my mood swings and depression - dairy, corn and all derivatives, peanuts. So I avoid those to feel best. It’s a lot of trouble and money to avoid one single antidepressant, but it’s worth that much to me. I will take 1/2 of a .5mg tablet of lorazepam if I totally lose control, but that’s been less than Once a week on abx and never when I take an abx break.

My doctor insist I take a mood stabilizer, because if I can’t deal with the depression and anxiety that come with herxing, I can’t work up to my full abx protocol. I refuse. I won’t do it.

For now I’m trying acupuncture to deal with side effects so I can get on full protocol. But I’ll give up, go to an herbalist, or switch doctors before I ever risk addiction to another antidepressant.

After my mom passed away and my dad was grieving, the asshat Dr. put my dad on Effexor.

Many years later, when in hospital recovering from hip surgery, they also gave him sleeping pills every night for 6 weeks that he was in there. We never knew, and neither did he. (That generation doesn't like to question the Dr.'s)

He ended up in withdrawal from the sleeping pills after he was discharged. What did they do? Gave him more zopicolone and ativan to be taken up to 4X daily....which of course he did...not knowing better.

So, he ended up in the psych ward....where the "Geriatric" psychiatrist took him off his Effexor in three days.
He called that 'weaning'.

I kid you not.

My dad never recovered. It was the beginning to the end.
