Diflucan and Heart Issues?

I have been on Diflucan for a number of weeks (200mg twice per week for six weeks, followed by 200mg once per week) for a bad systemic candida infection (resulting from 1.5 years on multiple abx). The last few weeks, I have been experiencing brain fog, muscle and joint pain, shaking, and migraines. My LLMD believes these were due to die-off. However, I have also been experiencing palpitations and chest pain. These have become increasingly troublesome, to the point where I'm now experiencing constant chest pain and palpitations; last night I barely slept due to the pain and feeling like my heart was going to jump right out of my chest.

Can anyone advise whether the Diflucan could be causing this? I've had issues with palpitations and lots of chest pain since undergoing treatment for Bart and Mycoplasma, and I have QT prolongation (not sure if this is a factor)--but I've never had symptoms quite like this. I have a strong family history of heart disease and heart attacks, so I'm a little anxious....TIA!

Yes, it is a factor!
Sorry to say this, but Diflucan is one medication that can exacerbate or even cause LongQt Syndrome.


I would discuss this with your Dr. right away...and actually if I were you, I'd discontinue it until you speak with him.

I am surprised...(not in a good way) that your Dr. doesn't know about your Long QT syndrome???
or if he does...he didn't discuss the Diflucan

Thank you Girlie. That’s very helpful. I will stop it now. The QT issue is on file, but I assume my doctor didn’t check it (another doctor did the ECG). I’m heading to a walk-in clinic now, just to be safe. I appreciate your help!

I agree with Girlie but am curious if you are on any other medications. Here is a list of ones that should not be taken in conjunction with it for the reason you mentioned.

Azithromycin also has the long qt as a risk. So you should prob stay away from that one too.

Diflucan has been shown to kill lyme in test tubes as well. It has great BBB penetration. You may be having long QT side effects or a herx reaction. Get an ekg to make sure its not the QT interval.

She said she already has Long QT - so really shouldn't be on that med.

Thank you all very much! I got sent to the ER and they weren’t sure why my heart rate is so elevated (it was 100 to 120 last night but back down to low 80s today), but ruled out a heart attack at least. They referred me to a Cardiologist for follow-up tests, and I’ve stopped the diflucan. I’m not taking any other meds that would cause interactions—but it’s good to know what to be careful about in the future. I really appreciate all your replies.
