hello everyone ive been looking for the best way to take artemisia annua for babesia and have not come to a conclusion on the best way to take it thank you have a great day

I used artemesia annua in a mix of herbs, but it mainly treated my Lyme. The artemesia annua may have been what kept my Babs symptoms down for me to get through treatment for Lyme and Bart is what I've been thinking though.

hello traveler thanks for the response well im taking artemisia but i see some people take 1200mg a day for 3 days then off 11 days or 400 mg 15 days on15 days off which has me a little lost

Arteminisin must be used carefully, but artemesia annua is different. Arteminisin is a derivative of artemesia annnua - it's a concentrated portion of the active chemicals of the plant. They have removed some of what keeps it actively working on the infection, and the part that helps protect the body. While arteminisin is pretty effective, it can only be used for a short period of time - I think they are still trying to figure out how much and how long it's best used for.

I prefer to use the whole herb, as you don't have to worry about the enzyme in the GI tract that will prevent it from being effective, even if used long term.

So, it comes down to which version of the herb you wish to use - artemesia annua (whole herb) or the arteminisin (concentrate).

im taking artemesia annua 400mg a day 15 days on 15 days of but in not sure if thats correct or if i can take it straight

If you are using the whole herb like you said, you can take it without pulsing and it will actually work better if you don't pulse it. Herbs should not be pulsed, except in the circumstances where you are using only certain constituents of an herbs as in the case with arteminisin.

ok thanks traveler i was under the impression that it is neurotoxic thanks everyday that i take it are good days when i stop i go back to bad days

That's the arteminisin that is like that, not the whole herb.

Best of luck - and you may need more than just the artemesia to treat the infection.

im also taking azithromycin i would like to take cryptolepis ive ordered it but im not to sure since i read about it making you sterile but im not sure if its just while your on it or for good

Do you have or have access to Buhner's Babesia book? If not, I would sure encourage you to get one yourself so that you can read what he says about both of these herbs - crypto and artemsia. His writing about cryptolepis starts on page 253, where he mentions artemesia as well.

The one that needs to be pulsed is Artemisinin. It's not neurotoxic - but the small intestine can create an enzyme that will render it useless if you use it continually...and not pulse it.


Artemisia (whole herb) - can be taken daily....it's not usually pulsed...as Traveler said.

Can someone show me an example of what to buy when looking for the whole herb? All I find is artemesinin which I am pulsing, but just curious.

Is there a difference? My LLMD told me to get artemesinin. Also, Girlie, what is the dosage that is usually used? I have been on it for a while and she still wants me at 400mg daily, not to increase it.

Cindy - I believe you can get Whole herb Artemesia in a tincture from Woodland Essence and Sage Woman Herbs.

I will take a look when I'm at my computer - just reading posts on bed right now.

I just checked Woodland Essence - and it's listed as Sweet Annie (or Wormwood) - maybe that's why you didn't find it?

For Artemisinin 400 mg daily is a low dose - one LLMD says slowly increase each round you do and get up to 500x3 times daily - for three days and then off for eleven days.

I use the artemisia whole herb. The brand is by Allergy Research Group and it is just called Artemisia. It is 500mg per capsule of Sweet Wormwood. They also sell the derivative Artemisinin. The bottles look exactly the same so check the name before ordering.

I think Allergy Research Group is supposed to be a good brand.

I buy the AllergyReasearch Group Artemisinin.

Loutucky said they have both - Artemisia and Artemisinin...

Artemisinin = active constituent of the Artemisia.


It's personal preference.

LLMD's generally will prescribe the Artemisinin.
LLND's , holistic practitioners often prescribe the Artemisia (whole herb)

I'm only guessing, but I would say it's either they believe it's better or their doctor's do.

As I've said, I prefer to use the whole herb, as it often has other constituents that will help it either work better/longer or that will help protect the body better.

But the comments above are talking about 400-500 mg 3x/day

Can I ask why the discrepancy? I"m about to order artemisia.

Some Llmd’s are prescribing artemisinin with pharma drugs for Babesia.
LLMD MR says to start lower and increase each day for 3 days in a row and then take 12 days off.
Try to get to 1500 mg total

My LLMD prescribes 800 twice daily to be taken m/w/f one week and then m thru F the second week and then two weeks off.

So you decided on Artemisia - whole herb instead?

Yes, I would rather do the whole herb with the additional, complex components. I only took a short round of antibiotics; just wasn't a good match for me. I've decided to go the herbal route.

I have a moderate allergy to Mugwort, which I believe is basically Artemesia. Haven’t dared take it, can anyone confirm?
