Shoulder Blade Pain From Lyme?

I have been having pain in my left shoulder blade for quite awhile now and I am starting to wonder if this is due to Lyme. It could very well be stress because I have a pretty stressful job unfortunately (I am a business Analyst), but it is a dull pain in my left shoulder blade and it sends pain up through my neck when I push on the spot. It is almost like a knot..

Has anyone else experienced this and is it from Lyme?

My left shoulder blade area was my very first symptom...yes it can be from lyme or the co's.

Mine turned into frozen shoulder...and still trying to recover from the nerve issues I have.

I didn't have a knot though...there wasn't any tightness..or knots...mine was total muscle atrophy from lack of innervation.
I'm still building back the muscle...

Yep, I had/have this, it's my right shoulder blade though. There has been a constant knot kinda under the shoulder blade for a long time. It also does the radiating up into neck & back of skull thing. Sometimes tingling/ numbness & severe shooting pains in my right arm accompanied it. Strangely, as I developed more symptoms I actually got some relief from the constant shoulder blade deal- now it's always really tight there, but the pain is only sometimes. I definitely think it's a Lyme ( or coinfection ) thing!

Interesting!! Thank you both! I suspected it was a Lyme/Co thing because it seems like every time my symptoms flair up, it gets much worse. I massage it but it doesn't usually bring relief. Sometimes it actually makes it worse.

Do you do epsom salt baths?


That does give me some relief - not long-lasting, but for a couple of hours..

I fill the tub up and then I lean back and immerse my shoulder blade area in the water.

I haven't done one in about a month but I use to do them every couple nights. Good to know, I'll give it a shot!

Shoulder pain was also one of my first symptoms. It started in one and then moved to the other and now it is in both.

Right shoulder pain was my first symptom! It radiated from my liver and gallbladder. When I was especially ill my spleen became enlarged and my left shoulder blade started to hurt too. Because of this, I tend to think the shoulder pain it is usually radiating from organs.

Mine is from the infection (most likely bart) affecting me nerves.

It goes all the way down my left arm and hand...nerve pain.

Nic, have you tried the chiropractor. For me that shoulder blade always turns out to be a rib out.

VCL - what kind of treatment does the chiro do to put the rib back in?

Does it hurt? Or is he able to gently manipulate it ?

Hey Girlie

My chiro puts heat and tins on the area first, I guess to help relax the muscles, then does a couple of things. One crosses my arms across my chest while laying flat and pushes into me. Sounds hard but it's not.

With this new shoulder injury, today he only pressed on my spine while face down to open up the kinks then I flipped over and he folds one bent knee over slowly.

Such a relief. The hard part is not holding my breath lol.

Nic, I'm sorry chiro hasn't helped with your shoulder blade. I hope you find something that works.

At one point, I had recurring pain between both my shoulder blades, and it was miserable. At the time, I thought it might have been my gallbladder. I had a hida scan and my gallbladder checked out okay. That symptom went away before I knew I had Lyme.

I'm now having this same shoulder pain. Left side. I've tried everything aside from an MRI and/or surgery, which I prefer to avoid at all costs. Its been constant for over 3 months. Did you all ever find relief?

Nichost, have your spleen checked it is a symptom of shoulder blade pain that it may be enlarged so you have to either break a few days or detox better. Mine went down by breaking for a week.

Hi Lwnsmld13

I did go on to see Ortho and have an MRI. They did find a tiny tear but said that wasn’t unusual for someone to have at my age and history, and decided it was frozen shoulder as my Chiro said. The pain was so intense!

A couple of months into rehab it disappeared. This is a pattern for me, the issues pop up and then go away.

I have found increasing detox methods and careful stretching all over have helped with each issue, some take weeks some take months before moving out of the spot. As a note all these spots were either old injuries or areas I abused with weight lifting, meaning I pushed too much weight for me, just cause we can do something doesn’t mean we should lol.

i got on here just now because of the intense shoulder pain , neck, and upper back pain i'm experiencing today. it's so bad i want to cry sad

my doctor said this can be related to babesia, and I'm taking sweet annie's now for it..

anyone doing anything for relief? this is intense sad & I Just want to lay flat on a heating pad right now.

I have had intense shoulder pain (mostly right but occasionally left), that moves to my shoulder. In May, my right shoulder blade and shoulder were hurting so bad it felt as if my right arm was dislocated. My GP told me it was time to see my LLMD as she believed the pain was due to Lyme. So sorry you’re hurting. :/

I get excruciating pain behind my right shoulder blade. I go white with the pain and it usually goes through to my liver area at the front. Suffering now and saw this post. Usually worse at the start of a bout. Feels muscular and changes with movement but definitely caused by Lyme because I only get it when I am suffering with other symptoms. I suffer with gout and this is comparable.

Shoulder blade pain = a rib out of place for me too. It doesn't want to stay put, but with work, it's improving. I didn't like the first chiro I went to but the second has healing hands -- she's amazing.

By the way, she doesn't recommend heat for the pain, but rather ice. She said the hot baths we like for detoxing aren't great for this, especially at bedtime, and she advises taking them in the morning and using ice at bedtime. Now I make sure to cool off with a cool shower after an epsom salt bath.

Yes, interesting that most of my joint pain is on my left side. My migrans rash was on my left shoulder after a tick bite. I'm convinced my neck, left scapula and left shoulder pain are due to being bit on that shoulder.

Interesting - my symptoms started with a tingling/soreness left shoulder blade area for a few days - then about the 4th day - after falling asleep on the couch after work one evening I woke up with excruciating pain left side of neck, across my left shoulder blade area. My left arm and hand was limp and numb.

So bad - my husband took me to the ER.

That was the start of my many Lyme symptoms .

Many months later there was a little bump that I noticed on my upper back/base of my neck on the left side that had a black spot. My Dr said it was a cyst and she could excise it and put in s coupke stitches. I declined.
One morning during a shower the water hitting that spot caused a sharp stinging pain - I checked it when I got out of the shower in the mirror and it had opened up and the infection was oozing out.

There was a hard black thing in it.

Many months later after my diagnosis I wondered if that was the tick.

I don’t have blackheads - never have had one - and this was coincidentally in the area of my beginning and worst symptom.

Highly likely. I've dug several deep bedded ticks from my dogs.
