I started reading Dr. Caroline Leaf, a neuroscientist who works with the power of thinking in changing (and healing) your brain and body. She comes at it from a Christian perspective, so if you're religion-averse, you might not find help in it. But there are others who promote the power of positive thinking as well.
To be super basic, it takes 21 days to create a habit. So spend time every single day focusing on one of your negative thoughts (like, "i'm never going to heal") and change it to a positive one ("I am healing; progress takes time; I'm closer to healing than I was yesterday"). Every day for 21 days. Work hard to persevere through the 4-5 day slump. After 21 days, continue to nurture the positive thought, but you can also start to tackle a new one for 21 days. 3 cycles of this to change the brain activity.
I haven't been able to commit to any program yet (brain fog and flare like whoa) but I have started to catch myself thinking negatively and immediately spin it. Every day, just catching the bad thoughts and saying, "oh no, you don't, I'm gonna keep looking up." I fail miserably, but the practice is becoming faster and easier.
I have also found a very compassionate chinese medicine acupuncturist who is very reassuring and positive with me. She constantly puts me on the right track and encourages me that I am on it. She's aware that every body is different and needs a personalized approach, and is confident we will find all the right cofactors for me. I am feeling MUCH HAPPIER AND MORE CONFIDENT now, as opposed to my allopathic LLMD, who threw a ton of pills at me, dismissed all my concerns about gut health and toxicity, told me to stop reading the internet, and just take the pills. Only saw him every 6-8 weeks and in between I was an absolute mess. For the same price, I can see my DOM twice a week, get acupuncture to ease the symptoms, and get constant reassurance and positive reinforcement.
Makes a ton of difference.
