Mycotoxin test from Realtime labs vs Great plains

Im going to start at a new clinic soon and as I was living in an apartment with mold when I got sick 5 years ago, I asked about mold testing.

I read a lot of good things about the Realtime labs test that costs 604 £.
But they also have Great plains lab test at 280 £ that they said had a comparable numbers of markers that they often use.

Not sure what test to choose. Mold is very important, but it gives me more money for other test to take the cheaper one.
Is the Great plains lab test as good as the Realtime labs?


I called the clinic today and talked about this. They think the cheaper test is good enough, so I think I will go with Great plains.

I've been suggested to take the Realtime one as well. But it's very expensive especially when you don't think mycotoxins to be that big of a problem for you (it would be just to check if they are any problem).

I wonder which clinic you are referring to... as we both seem to be in Europe...

I wish the cheaper one would be good enough. Once you get the results, let us know what you got out of them!

I used Realtime Labs, as that's what my doctor used. I know someone here used Great Plains, but I don't know about how good or accurate they are. You can search this site for the related posts.

Has anyone since this was posted done a RealTime Labs and switched to Great Plains Lab for mycotoxins? I have done 2 RealTime for mycotoxins, but I just can’t afford to pay $700 for another test. Second test was still high for all 4 groups and was done in 2017. I’ve been in brand new housing and treating with compounded CSM since July 2018. My LLMD doesn’t want to gauge mold toxicity with these tests. He uses the Shoemaker non-specific labs. I don’t trust MMP-9 and TGF Beta to gauge how moldy I may still be.

I think the real time test includes a follow up test so you're really getting two tests. (?)

You get the first test for $700 at Real Time Labs. The second test is $250 or more now, but only if you order the second test in the same calendar year as the first. That’s how it was in 2017. Maybe it’s different now?

I did two with Realtime and recently one with Great Plains. I like Great Plains better (tests for more stuff) and costs less.

Realtime showed gliotoxin only. Follow up after using welchol was negative. This was in 2017.

In 2019, Great plains showed high ochratoxin a and mycophenolic acid (produced by penicillium). This was even after taking zeolite & takesumi supreme for a month after exposure. The mold we had was aspergillus pen, which is consistent with the ochratoxin.

You’re a gem k07!! Thank you so much for sharing your experience! I’m sure it will help a lot of us. I’m sorry to read that you’re still mold sick. sad. Now it’s time to see if I am.

My LLMD says they're both good tests but that Great Plains tests for more, and I opted for it because it's so much cheaper.

My first 2 tests were with Realtime. Last test was with Great Plains. I like the Great Plains better. They test for more stuff and give detailed reports. Was a little hard comparing my results from them to each other, though, because Great Plains groups and labels the mycotoxins a little differently. Still, I prefer the Great Plains and would use them again.

Great news! You and saraeli and k07 have made me feel comfortable ordering the test from Great Plains. Even better that all of you weighing in helps others make a decision between the two.
