SoMuchFun similar to the potential inaccuracy of the heavy metals text I had the same problem with the Mycotoxin test that many naturopaths give and some push on you that are quite expensive. I know the RealTime labs urine test is over $800.
So if you have material amounts in your urine it either means you have too many toxins or your body is doing a good job of removing them. Huh?
I did Welchol then some weight loss supplement that prevents some fats from being metabolized for many months and they did nothing for me.
Point is testing has some benefit but isn't a smoking gun necessarily.
Realtime Labs was $695 for me and Medicaid paid for my mother’s. Medicaid and Tricare are the only insurance that will cover it.
My mother and I both lived in the same moldy house, which we left and moved in with a relative. I did 11 days of cholestyramine followed by activated charcoal and modified citrus pectin and daily liposomal glutathione. Mom did Welchol for about
a month and stopped due to nosebleeds. Later, she resumed it but never took it regularly again.
We did our initial mycotoxin labs in Nov 2016 - 2 months after leaving the moldy house and prior to cholestyramine and Welchol. We were both positive for gliotoxin. Mom was also positive for trichothecenes. My trichothecene levels at initial were zero. We both had below range values for Ochratoxin A and Aflatoxins.
Fifteen months later, we retested. I had completely cleared the gliotoxin, which was the only one I tested positive to initially. I had a slight numerical value for trichothecenes. Mom was still positive. We both had increased levels of Ochratoxin A and Aflatoxin. Mine were still below the positive range.
After comparing our labs - mine to hers and initial to followup, it became clear that we were simply being exposed to a different group of mycotoxins in the relative’s house than we were at home.
Mycotoxin testing did not seem at all bogus or useless to me based on my analysis. I know from the ERMI tests and the water incidences that have occurred since moving to this relative’s house that we are still exposed to toxigenic molds - just less than and different from our house. We still remain symptomatic and sensitive to mold and chemicals. I feel like the binders and probably more so the glutathione is what is keeping me above water, but all I’m doing is treading as I’m still exposed.
Just had to share that. People need to hear other perspectives. My understanding of the mycotoxin test is that normal, healthy people do not have positive test results. Conversely, the sickest people may have negative tests initially as they are not excreting the toxins much at all. Once removed from exposure and they receive help for detox impairments, they will start to excrete toxins and results will become positive at that point.
For myself, I suspect one of two things about
the trichithecenes. Either my mother was exposed in her prior workplace and not our house, and I didn’t have any measurable exposure until we moved to the relative’s house, OR I am just now able to excrete the trichothecenes at all. As I was and still am very toxic, even after 2 years, I suspect the latter scenario. Time will tell. If I ever get in a cleaner environment and get less symptomatic, I would seriously want to retest us both.
