I remember reading about
this several years back, before I ever suspected Lyme. "A stable cardboard microscope body and precision-manufactured glass bead for a lens", cost to make is under a dollar, 140x magnification, light and smartphone adaptors, etc etc. I wonder if there are also ways to vary the magnification, Wikipedia seems to imply so. The same people have made a "paperfuge" also, separates plasma in 1.5 min and malaria in 15 min.
If it's the same group as what I originally read, they were wanting to make malaria diagnosis easy, cheap and widespread.
Seems like it could be useful for us broke "citizen scientists" who have to deal with microscopic thingies on our own. They'll sell you a Deluxe Kit for $40, I wonder if there are knockoffs or DIY (seems like I have seen something similar on YouTube). Or maybe since they're about
"science for everyone" the Lyme community could work out some kind of deal.
I hope to get one or something similar, has anyone else played with it? Or have any thoughts?
