Celery Juice - just hype or real deal?

Has anyone jumped on the medical medium train? Biggest new fad is drinking 16 ounces of celery juice on empty stomach in the morning. Many people swear it has helped with their chronic illness, skin issues, digestive problems, etc. just curious if anyone has tried it and has seen help with symptoms as a result?

Why not just eat celery and get some fiber too.

I make up a lot of stove top stir fry veggies with shredded / grilled meat in it too. Celery when lightly cooked/stir fried in a pan with a little olive oil creates a sweet smoky taste unlike its raw state. - not so boring then.

Because you wouldn’t get that amount of juice by eating the celery.

You’d have to eat a heck of a lot of celery to get 16 oz of juice

Sounds like just that - a fad. I'm sure drinking celery juice in substitute of soda or whatever else people normally drink/ingest is a lot healthier.

That said there are many dietician health nuts saying whole veggies with the fiber is way better than juicing any day.

Toad smoothies will be the next thing some day. (protien)

Celery is one of the most contaminated vegetable we eat. I would not want to concentrate that and drink it. Nutrient wise, there are better vegetables to concentrate.

Hi! I vote for celery juice but not every day. Here is why.
I ve notecied last spring white flakes in urine( sorry for the details), so I made urine test and it showed high level of leucocytes. I ve found in the web that 3 day celery juice plus cranberries mixed with it in blender will help. I did 3 days and it disappeared. Now half year later I’ve noticed it again and made another 3 days juice fasting. Its all gone now. I blame all the stuff i m taking to treat lyme.
But anyway, do something in excess amount every day is not good with anything. I am sure that this type of stuff should be made as a course.

My understanding is that the reason for juicing the celery is because it strips the fiber but keeps all of the other nutrients and allows you to consume more of the good stuff. They say one stalk/bundle of celery will get you the 16 ounces needed. I have the same reservations as every one else but I am going to give it a try come January (New Years resolution type thing). Why not, right? Cheap enough and one my main issues is digestive issues.

Well...ok, maybe i'l try it, it should alkalize the body. People on you tube swear by it but dont give details on what its doing.

Organic celery Hearts (under $3) aren't much more that non-organic.

p.s. Recall that Georgia Hunter mentioned celery is one of the most contaminated vegetables. It's listed on the Environmental Working Group's (EWG's) "Dirty Dozen" list. So, choosing organic may help, if possible and available.

It's a good thing that I get my strawberries (in season only) at a local u-pick family farm...they're not 'certified' but claim they don't use the pesticides....

I buy organic nectarines, peaches, apples and tomatoes (usually) - although hubby buys a big bag of apples at the cheapest grocery store we have....and enjoys them. :0

Don't eat much celery, grapes, pears or potatoes. and don't eat peppers or spinach.

I'm not sure how much faith I put in that EWG list, but I suppose it's a good starting place. The amount of contamination in a strawberry grown in one place almost certainly won't match that of a strawberry grown in a different place.

Also, it must be considered that even organic farmers have to take measures to prevent crop loss from disease and rodents. Honestly, I've never wanted to look into the methods they employ, because I'm not sure I want to know. In the end, we have to eat something!

Personally, I wouldn't avoid eating an apple, if my only choice were non-organic. I would just wash it thoroughly and enjoy it. Peeling fruits and vegetables is another option, though the skins often contain beneficial compounds the flesh does not.

Ya...........we must eat well and do it economically feasible.

Organic celery is still under $3 a bundle. But whats in the ground from before?

Humans wrecked the planet, have no choice but to get used to it. Soon all our food will be contaminated. Oh well, cant starve. Did my part by not over populating it.

Totally agree, astroman. Look at what was done to the ground in the southern U.S., with regard to arsenic contamination. This is why folks should purchase organic rice from California, if eating rice.

I'm thinking we should all probably learn to get seeds and either sprout them and/or grow them hydroponically. In a perfect world, I'd have a small (400 sq. ft. / 37 sq. m.) home and small greenhouse on a small piece of property and own all of it. Then, I'd only need to generate enough income to pay for electricity (if I didn't have off-grid solar), telephone, and maybe a few other items. If I were able to grow enough food to sell the surplus, then I could "work" even less is some random job and enjoy life even more. Life should be much more simple.

I also tried to help by offsetting the number of children my other family members had. Some of their offspring will be great contributors to society. Others...not so much. I don't want to know in which camp I fall! smile

Dude....thats what I stride for, its perfect and all a guy / dude needs, Ive looked into this a lot. The American machine (other countries too though) are trying to make this impossible. Im hoping the Melliniums / hipsters with their tiny house movement change this. But if it changes, could backfire and government will find a way to still tax the bejesus out of us and re-create the stress we were steering away from in the first place. I cant legally build a small 700 sq ft house (bigger than a "tiny home") unless way way out in the sticks. Its easier to park a mobile home out in the sticks on your own property than to build a small foundation home.

I just want to simplify away from modern stress/ over population and the 40 hrs work week. The government wants no part of this. Maybe when the old greedy fu#$ controlling the world are dead, this must be rich attitude will change (?).

If I were younger I'd be a small house builder (again, not as small as a tiny home). They build big cause its more money and follows the home builder income ratio formula of lot vs house cost. Cant make money in a decent size town. And towns often influence the country just incase they expand that big someday. I like the northern states in the summer, but off grid is hard in winter, i've looked into it.

The SW desert has no water, so what do you do? SE Appalachia is too humid, a friend who moved south has a cabin in the Blue mnts, its nice a little less hot with elevation but still real sticky needing AC.

Look up images of steel container homes, there are some pretty neat ones and relatively small too. i would think in most states just like they don't tax a trailer home since it is not attached, maybe the container homes arnt taxed so you would just be paying taxes on the land. Have to check the regulations in your town or county/parish.

We need a practice life, then do it right the second time around. The shipping container houses look cool too, but you need heavy equipment to get it there. Like a trailer house,need good flat dry dirt trail to haul it to location.

Some counties even in the sticks require a living dwelling thats not in a trailer park to have a foundation - even if the foundation homes in that county look like rotting shacks.

The small ghost towns in the woods of Upper Peninsula of Michigan (more like northern Wis. than Mich.) has the cheapest living in a actual home in the north central US, but you better like 10-12ft of snow and boarded homes next to you. Can get a real house for 10K a few years ago, will need work though. The counties sometimes plow the small town roads, some with no habitants are not plowed now I heard. Almost everyone left in some areas, all there was in the past for work was timber and mining. Towns on the great lakes waters edge still have tourism, but inland has almost zero economy now besides a lakeside resort. You can drive through a few of these on county roadways, its odd to see it.

You really understand this stuff, Astroman. In my looking into smaller (not necessarily "tiny"), I've found it to be just as you stated. The game is rigged.

In one "Tiny House" community I've investigated, they're charging $600 per month just for the pad to place the tiny house! Then, of course, there's the cost of the tiny house -- some of which are now around $100k (some more, some less). That's insanity. With the tiny house mortgage and the lot rent, you're at $1,000 or $1,200 per month. What's the point?

The tiny home boom has driven up the prices for these homes. Personally, I wouldn't need or want granite countertops, stainless steel appliances, bamboo floors, etc. To me, all of that goes against the point of going smaller in the first place. I just want a small, comfortable place with the bare necessities, and insulated really well. Less is more. I bet you and I would make good roommates! smile

Regarding your friend's cabin in the Blue Ridge Mountains, is that in Georgia, South Carolina, North Carolina, or Virginia? I'm guessing it's not Maryland or Pennsylvania, since you mentioned the summers are sticky.

It’s a fad in fact it’s not safe for people with certain Dx to do celery juicing. It’s high in sodium and fiber. And you can probably google so I don’t have to go all nursey on you. This guy is not medically educated, does not have a degree. He thinks EVERY Dx is related to having EBV. And he has numerous law suits against him some for wrongful death. Use caution if you chose to follow this idiot.

At least I wont get fat from celery juice. Surprisingly high in sodium and sugar for something so bland. Not much in it, hype must be the alkalizing it does to you.

Dude- this cabins in western NC sandwiched between GA and TN. They get some snow and actually know how to plow it. As a northerner, the southern snow storms are somewhat amusing (the Armageddon they turn into).

Another buddy of mine moved to a northern MN cabin on an off grid island (I dont remember ticks there either). He had rented vehicle spots/slips at the lakeside bar/grill parking lot and dock for his: truck, open fishing boat, snowmobile and small hovercraft (for the slush season) to get to the island. Obviously everyone at the bar knew the "island guy" or the "village idiot" as he proudly proclaimed. His neighbor with $ had a pontoon/ski plane. I did some stupid $h/t out there in my 20's, it was great fun though. I thought getting out and scraping my windshield in the winter was bad. Try crossing lake water/ice/slush at 7 AM no matter what the season in the north to go to work. He capsized boating to shore one morning in the fall wind and lost the outboard motor. The day he moved, we rowed the boat like 15-20 times across in rain with tarps on his stuff lol. Should have waited for winter and drove the pick-up. This type of alternative living is only recommended for the young at heart who like drinking a lot and skiing behind a snowmobile.

You're right about the southern snow storms and the hysteria and mass confusion they create. Wasn't it down in Atlanta a year or two ago that an ice storm paralyzed the city? I'm a little familiar with the area where your friend's cabin is in Western NC. I'm somewhat in that general region.

Dude - your celery info, was that off a website(?) listing other veggies?- the "layout" is easy to read.

Celery sugar-If someone drank carrot juice everyday, that has more sugar. To much of anything can be bad based on individual.

North central US (west side of great lakes) has nice summers, but short. Weather is always a trade off north vs south. N wis has to many ticks, N mn can get very cold in Jan/Feb, UP of Mich is a little wamer, less ticks, less people, less jobs, cheap living, but too much lake effect deep snow for old people to shovel. Our temp changes are usually gradual vs north east US with all their constant storms/no power ect.. Lk superior is the exception as far as storms go, its more like a freshwater sea with sunken ships all over, well you know the song from 1976 or so.
