I have some ongoing jaw pain above a spot where dentists have been unsure whether I have decay under an old cavity (or whether it's just a shadow from the old filling). Finally facing reality that I'm going to need some work done there. Maybe this is one thing holding me back from healing.

I know it's recommended to avoid a root canal and go to a biological DDS. Is pulling the tooth the only other option in a situation where a root canal is advised? And is a regular dentist good enough for the extraction or is it really worth the big out-of-pocket expense to go to a biological one?

I don’t know of anything else that can be done other than extraction as an alternative to root canal.

Hopefully you won’t need an extraction and it’s a cavity that can be filled.

I’ve had a “regular’ dentist do some work with no issues after.
I had two mercury amalgams replaced with a composite a couple years ago.

welp ive made the switch and started going to a biological dentist. they are so much more knowledgable than regular dentists that i have to say....yes its expensive but ive submitted every claim and have gotten reimbursed... im getting a tooth pulled in april that will cost me $900 but i will submit to insurance and prolly gonna get $700 back... its the paying up front that sucks

I won't get anything reimbursed. I might be able to add a dental plan next year that might reimburse something (haven't looked at details) but for this time at least, it's either regular dentist or totally OOP.

Right now I just want this tooth gone and any bacteria under it gone too.

Unfortunately there are no biological/ holistic dentists who take insurance anywhere around me. That's awesome that yours is covered!

Maybe ozone injection? My biological dentist does them. Painful though - but worth a try to avoid losing tooth or root canal. I am having an issue with a crown that is hurting. I had ozone done yesterday and it is feeling better but not totally normal yet. From what I have read it kills bacteria/fungi/virus and can also speed healing. I know some are having it injected in cavitations to kill the junk and encourage bone growth.

A biological dentist should understand and care about how to extract the tooth in such a way as to minimize the chances of improper healing that can result in cavitation infections. A biological dentist will also likely use ozone to clean out the space, which can kill infection-causing microbes.

A biological dentist has a very different approach to health and far more knowledge than a regular dentist. I made the switch last summer and hope to never go back to a regular dentist.

The best for dental issues are lots of salads, chop various vegetables, mostly green, it has lots of A vitamins for your gums.
Onions, lettuce, cabbage, tomato,... add basilico, organic olive oil, hard cottage cheese or bacon, eat it slowly, fill all corners of your mouth.
