Bartonella or allergic MCAS rash

Hi,

I have been treating Bartonella with z pack and liposomal doxy from Hopkinton pharm and have been getting a rash that looks like fresh scratches again. I have been assuming its a bart herx rash, but it comes along with other symptoms of MCAS like a drop in BP, itchy eyes, general itching and some anxiety. How can I tell the difference? It is not scabby and disappears in about 30 minutes or less just like the general description of "dermagratism" (im sure i spelled that wrong) that I see on other sites.

It sounds like MCAS which is a common manifestation with bartonella. Never heard of liposomal doxy? you mean liposomal glutathione? Also, z-pack and doxy alone is likely not enough to get bart. Need an antibiotic that will target intracellularly like rifampin or Bactrim.

A Z pak - isn't that only 5 or 6 doses of 250 mg?

Or, are you on longer term zithro plus doxy?

As xpeetzax mentioned - you may need something else to treat bart...

Thank you for your replies, I am seeing my LLMD and plan to ask her about more/higher dose of azythromyacin . I was taking rifampin but I think it mugged my thyroid medication because I honestly felt as if I would die on another dose, so I took 2 z packs I had at home from my regular doctor (with the doxy precribed by the LLMD) until I can get in to see her.. she has a long wait. Liposomal Doxy is a new thing I guess xpeetzax which she recommended from Hopkington pharm because I am a cash only patient ($$$$) and it would be cheaper for me than IV's. She feels it packs much more of a punch than regular doxy, and when I was first taking it with Rifampin and Liposomal Arteminisin (for Babs) id have to say I agree.

After a couple pulses on this protocol, I became highly (allergic like) reactive to the arteminisin, and like I said the rifampin felt deadly. Maybe it was just really working but I could hardly move my legs or get out of bed.

PS As soon as I take the azythromyacin with the doxy I feel much better within a couple hours though. The effect does not continue till the next day however.

I think I agree I need another perhaps bactrim.

I’ve had bart rashes and itchiness recently, I’m not sure if it’s just the bart or MCAS or herxing. It seems to have calmed down a bit since taking activated charcoal more regularly.

yes that is the confusing part isnt it Szabo246? Bart, MCAS or herxing? thank you for your reply, I do take charcoal, but that does become tricky also with thyroid medication because i think it absorbs that also....

Yep I feel your pain! It’s so hard to fit everything in!

I have been getting up at random hours in the night to take mine so it doesn’t absorb the herbs and other supplements
