Brucella/Brucellosis Anyone?

I received my recent lab results and I tested positive for Brucella, I have no idea where i would have gotten it, except maybe from the tick that gave me Lyme last June (bulls eye rash).

Does anyone have any experience with treatment of Brucellosis? I have an appt with my LLMD next week so I am sure he will have a plan but I was just wondering if anyone had any experience/advice for dealing with this apparently extremely rare co-infection.

So sorry to hear of those lab results! Were you IgM positive?

In the 18+ months I've been a member on this forum, I can't say that Brucella was discussed much - sorry.

If you were bit by a tick that bit a animal with Brucella, it's possible you got Brucella at the same time you got Lyme :(

Cd gave you some really good information!

I'm not so sure that it's rare, but more that it's not being checked for. It was a suspected infection for me, but my immune system was so low then that my LLMD chose to not run a bunch of tests to try to figure out what all I had. He just said that I likely had every single tick-borne disease due to the length of time I was infected, my symptoms and the severity.

Thank you for the information, the more I read about Brucella it becomes more clear that Brucellosis explains the weird symptoms my other 2 LLMDs could never figure out and the reason I can go no more than 2 days without antibiotics before I start losing weight at a rapid rate.

It will be interesting to see what treatment changes my Dr makes. I am now seeing Dr J in DC (he is the one who ordered the Brucella test after at my initial consultation) so I have complete confidence that he will figure this all out for me

Although I tested negative for Brucellosis (a couple times), I seriously suspect I have it. I have had weird symptoms too that my LLMDs could not quite figure out. I'm glad you found out what is plaguing you acs73! Blood testing for this infection is not very good once it goes chronic. Do keep us posted, I'm very curious what treatment your doc will decide on, as it is very difficult to knock out. Keep us updated on your progress and treatment.

There are some good threads, info, and links on Brucella/Brucellosis on this forum that will probably come up with cd's link. Also, there are some good threads, info, and links over on Lymenet.org about it. I don't have the energy to go find them right now.

I would positively love to hear updates from any and all of you. Just finished treating brucellosis, afraid itsback as symptoms returning
