Doctor wants to do prostate procedure

Saw a urologist today who has suggested doing a procedure on prostate to keep it from blocking the urethra and help with emptying bladder. I am not fully voiding after going, or even close to full void.

He knows I have Lyme and said less than 2% of patients he has seen in 16 years have had Lyme related bladder/prostate issues. My thought was "maybe that'e because the odds would play to that percentage."

Could this simply be Lyme or co-infection irritating bladder and causing symptoms? I've had frequent urination before and it has slowed a lot with better resolution of Lyme symptoms. Also, the ADH test I took came back at .8, with .0-4.7 being norm. That also could be playing a part?

Not looking for diagnosis but thoughts and past experiences.

Was frequent urination the only symptom you had? Did you have burning with urination?

No burning. Frequency and, rarely, a little pressure feeling. Also, dry mouth, especially at night. That's why I mentioned the low ADH test. I should have asked if it could be UTI, but thought he would mention that.

I have some kidney issues, but the urologist said the kidneys aren't causing the problem. Enlarged prostate is. I've heard/read so much about Lyme causing bladder problems, just don't want to go through this procedure if that is the case. Maybe there is no way of really knowing.

did they identify by CT or MRI that the prostate is blocking it.?

i have a drainage problem too, my bladder doesn't completely empty.

in my case, its a UPJ stricture in one my ureters by the kidney. the flow rate seems to have improved a bit this past year from previous years, from renal scan...not sure what attribute the improvement to, but i will take it.

i have had this condition many years, if not my whole life, prior to TBD.

sierraDon - Ultra sound. Same with bladder, according to doctor. Not completely draining or even close.

Could you tell me what UPJ is? Maybe I'm not recognizing the obvious.

Do you have urgency or frequent problems? Sorry to hear you have had it for so long. Is it constant need? I've had times, when Lyme symptoms improved, where the need to go was much less. Then, when Lyme symptoms get worse, the frequency to pee seems to also. But it has stayed longer than ever this time.

That's why I question it.

i dont have urgency issues, but feel like i dont completely empty right. i notice it mostly at night or in the morning, when i go, then 15 minutes later have to go again. i do pee a lot when i am taking meds tho, i also attributed it to the volume of water i drink, and fluids.

UPJ is a narrowing of the ureter, such that it prevents adequate flow out of the kidney to the bladder. the risk with that is, that kidney gets swollen and you develop hydronephrosis. with my UPJ there is a narrowing right where it joins my one kidney.

it was 3 times what it should be a few years ago for me, then last month it was only 1.5 times what it should be. so it is improving, not sure how that is possible.

in your case it sounds they are pretty sure, if there was some question of the certainty, i am sure they would want to do an MRI or CT of the bladder/pelvis. i have had ultrasounds of my kidney, and they came back wrong stating severe swelling, it wasnt until i got renal scan that they were able to assess it better and found it actually improved.

this UPJ with me was an incidental finding back in 2009, i was probably born with it. i was infected with TBD in March 2016

I have frequency and low adh (<.60). When frequency flares up I will get discomfort/burning after going. During a flare I will go 4-6x a night, which isn’t too bad. When it first started I would go 10+ times a night with horrible discomort 24/7.

I did a trial of desmospressin which did normalize adh. Well, it went to 1.0. Then I took abx and it all went bad again. Abx flare it up for me.

One thing I’ve noticed is if I take diflucan while it’s bad - say going 5x a night, it will reduce to 1x or 0.

Low adh is common with mold illness.

Symptoms of this can get confusing and what to do. The point about diflucan is interesting. 4-6 times a night is normal for me - probably more like 4. I noticed two night ago only went 2-3 times. Not sure why.

Urologist wants to do procedure to correct the retention in the bladder. It's confusing when Lyme is involved, then mix in a nephrologist and a urologist. GFR has been low (50-57) for about 4-5 years. Creatinine high, but neither have gotten a lot worse. LLMD said 5 years ago it's not a big deal, but now thrown by it all.

Mold causes my urinary frequency, I used to go several times at night, and countless times during the day.
There is a simple test you can try smile I realized when I walk into a big clothing store, most of the time I will get urgency pretty quickly. If I go to changing room to try something on it will become even worse. I guess those clothes were stored God knows where, probably it took months to ship them in containers from overseas (makes me question the purpose of throwing away all my clothes and buying new ones).
Perhaps try a few stores smile if you get urgency, it's likely the mold.

Could be chemicals on clothing too. My frequency doesn’t get worse in stores but my face gets numb. Old Navy is one of the worst! Furniture stores & home improvement stores are also very bad.
