I noticed my two years of insomnia subside when I started using essential oils at bedtime. I used them initially to combat the dizziness of a particularly gnarly bartonella herx, but I discovered that the same oils worked for sleep! I dabbed a few drops of each oil onto a handkerchief that I set by my pillow at night, but of course you could try a diffuser or topical application with a carrier oil. The oils that work for me are peppermint (some people find it stimulating), frankincense, myrrh, and lavender. I know many will scoff at this, but some find essential oils very powerful.
Before that, I used melatonin to good effect. My in-laws swear by Rescue Sleep (by Bach) but I can't vouch for that one.
I also am religious about sleep hygiene. No naps ever. No stimulants ever. Consistent bed time and wake time every night, no exceptions. No getting into sleeping position until bedtime. Total darkness. Quiet. No food after 6 p.m. or water after 8 p.m. Blue light filters on all screen devices after sunset (or better yet, no screens after sunset).
I hear your frustration, and I'm sure you've tried many if not all of these things, but I wanted to contribute a few ideas for you, just in case. Sometimes these bugs and their herxes are absolutely brutal for sleep, and I know how maddening that is. Wishing you restorative sleep very soon!
