This mantra has been passed around so long it's become some self evident truth. The reality is just because you're increasing in symptoms does not mean you are herxing or even killing off the bugs. Sometimes medicine can cause an immune response given the bugs interference in all sorts of body functions. Sometimes you just piss the bugs off but don't kill them.
Herxing can also mean you are taking too much of something and need to back off. For example if you are listening to music do you like the volume on 4 or 12? Most would say the former which is less medicine using this analogy.
I've been trying to kill off my pathogens for almost 5 years and I'm still "herxing" from meds. After that long you would think they'd be all dead right? They aren't because I'm not necessarily killing them.
I agree, i feel like using herxing as a gauge is suspect. i never herx'd traditionally like a lot of people after 16 months of treatment.
to say that when we try a new supplement or antibiotic that the response, is a herx, its working is not always true. so many things could be attributing to that response. granted some maybe legitimate herx response, but not all.
