Wow, I never got any lumps from bartonella, just fever, rash, bad smell, stomach ache, and loss of red blood cells. The bart was in remission for some time but came back, so presumably there were some small granulomas but I couldn't feel them.

It doesn't seem like I'm herxing as much but I'm still getting toxic from something. I quit the bactrim, but I'm still losing salt and something is stressing my adrenals.

Quin just wondering how you came to contribute those symptoms to bartonella? I never got any of those, but I do get occasional stomach aches from food issues I assume.

Bartonella infects red blood cells, although babesia does too.

I would get a stomach ache from bart herx and it would smell bad when I pooped afterwards. It smelled like rotten vegetables, which is indicative of sulfur-containing compounds from the catabolism of amino acids. Unlike bartonella, borrelia and babesia can metabolize sugar, and are unlikely to break down sulfur-containing amino acids. Bartonella is the only organism likely to produce this distinctive odor.

The itchy rash with stretch marks is a well-documented symptom of bartonella.

I had a fever a few times when on Rifabutin and several rashes during treatment.
But my rbc were good and no bad smell.

Bart destroyed my red blood cells but didn't cause a lot of neurologic symptoms. Maybe you got a different type of bartonella?

All strains of bartonella catabolize amino acids. Why some people smell it and some don't is a mystery, but a similar phenomenon occurs with smelly pee after eating asparagus

There are some more common bart symptoms like sore soles of the feet, lymph nodes swelling, the stretch marks/striae , etc but everyone’s symptom “package “ is usually different with some shared and others’not.
Plus there are symptom overlaps with the different infections (Bart, Babs, Borrelia etc etc)

I hadn’t heard of the smell before your posted about it tho - that was a new one.

Not sure about a “different type of Bartonella” - Dr J said Bart - just based on my symptoms and confirmed with my Rifabutin herxes. I guess it doesn’t matter anyway since treatment would be the same.
I don’t think I gave the NP my positive bart test result from the non-known lab that I tested with.

I think HH-2 is even stronger than abx... but i will keep you informed about my herxes and improvements.

Bluelyme (if you read it) 6 HH-2 pills per day is a good dossage? I know you have experience on that.

There are many variants of bartonella. B. henselae, b. bacilliformis, b. quintana, etc. Due to its tendency to be resistant to various antibiotics, treatment may need to be varied a bit.

I had a negative PCR test a year ago. I thought the bartonella was gone... I was wrong. It came back.

You can’t use a negative pcr test result for anything.
The sample may just not had any of the DNA of the bacteria in it.

And the Bart treatment Dr J prescribes doesn’t depend on the strain of bart -

The bart was in remission for quite a while. I was not having any symptoms at the time, so it's not surprising the pcr test came up negative.

I was treating borrelia quite successfully with clarithromycin + amoxicillin + valproate. Unfortunately the bartonella infection proved to be completely resistant to all of those drugs.

I'm aware of what's typically prescribed for bartonella, but I've had difficulty with many of those drugs. In particular, rifampin, metronidazole, and trimethoprim caused me a lot of adrenal stress and sodium loss. Minocycline I found fairly tolerable.

Have you tried HH-2 Quin? I'm taking it now. 6 pills per day + minocycline 200 mg + Rifabutin 300 mg.

If i had to take trimethoprim in the future (i hope not), i never will take again Septra DS because sulfametoxazole is the "ingredient" that can cause the majority of side effects... Trimethoprim is the most active ingredient to Bart in the combination. With trimethoprim alone the risk to develop SJS is smaller...

When i'm concerned about bartonella being resistant is because i see my skin marks flare up when they are decreasing then suddenlly appear again... and it's what make me think that maybe Bart resistant cells are becoming more predominante than non resistant.

I was taking septra (trimethoprim+sulfamethoxazole) but was having a lot of sodium loss, which is a side effect of trimethoprim.
