Ridiculous bloating -- candida? SIBO?

I've been on a pretty strict candida diet for about two months. Yesterday I ate a doughnut, and today I look 6 months pregnant. (Still no regrets, lol.) What would cause that?

Understand the "no regrets" part. Bloating has been an issue for me for a long time now.

Yesterday was a special day with my kids and wanted them to feel like a normal day like we used to have. We went out to eat, and instead of eating all the things I shouldn't (and kidney concerns makes that even tougher), I ate pizza with them and had a Moon Pie. Paying for it today with bloating and mood.

My guess is it's the sugar, gluten and carbs that can cause problems. A doughnut is loaded with that too. Did you get any other symptoms after eating it like migraine? Maybe someone has a better explanation.

Full moon thing? Lol.

No migraine, but I also had itching on my hands and feet, mild brain fog and some joint pain.

I guess this is confirmation that I've been on the right track with diet. Sigh. I'm thinking I fed something I don't want to be feeding. It's kind of evil that when we feed ourselves, we feed the invaders too.

I think it's the gluten as well. And a bit of candida. SIBO doesn't really react to sugar as much. I know, giving up doughnuts sucks butt.

Jb1994, thanks -- that helps to know SIBO doesn't respond to sugar as much.

Normally I'm not really tempted by doughnuts. Now I know which kind to make sure I don't see, lol. (Hint: stay out of the farm market.)

One more thing -- I also smell like cat pee (lovely), which normally means I haven't detoxed enough, but this isn't a medicine week.

Had both.

Candida reacts to sugar and carbs.
SIBO is mostly a FODMAP food group issue.

Do two diet trails leaving above out..separately, and see what the outcome is.

I'm so frustrated. Yesterday I was out with a friend with our kids and she wanted to go get ice cream. I had a kids' cup of no sugar added ice cream, and today I look 7 months pregnant. I'm tired and apathetic, and I feel like I'm not even getting enough air from the bloating. I hate this so much.

Ice cream / real dairy has many possible offenders in it. Its an offender to different people for different reasons, plus lactose and its own natural sugar.

And.........like I mentioned, it might be more than candida.

To figure this out, you must make it a scientific test of sorts with no cheating and be firm in social eating events which means saying NO sometimes. People will respect you for it if you sound like you know your stuff vs following "some fad diet" like many out there.

My gut is now 100% fine if I avoid what bothers it (a big list). I now know with high accuracy what (and/or how much!!) will trigger it.

By ignoring this, I am fooling myself. A limited but healthy diet is not entertaining, I get it.. We forget that food is not meant to be "entertainment".

My separate rant : 100 years ago a soda or "pop" was a rare treat, vs many people today drinking more of that then water. Then there are people who grew up today around generations of bad food, not knowing the difference. Guess they skipped health class in grade school too. The food pyramid was wrong, but not the junk food part.

Yes, I know I need to do better. I'm not worried about people not respecting me. I'm just so darn tired. And I thought this would be ok.

This frustration is not directed to you -- I appreciate your post. Just at my health. I've been on one version or another of the candida diet for almost two years. It's clearly getting much worse. Just having an internal fit today.

Well if 2 years on a candida diet is not helping much, then there is MORE to find out what and why your body can or cant eat.

It took me 10 years to figure out my gut. First I also though it was just candida. (first five years without any professional help with gut health).

I too wish I could eat anything. On that note, as boring as healthy eating is, its good to know Im now in or near the upper percent of fittness for my fifty something age. I looked very fit 25 years ago (on the outside), but was a mess with lyme and gut symptoms inside.

It does help when I'm very strict. But yes, maybe there's more to it as well.

It's not just that I wish that I could eat anything (though I do). I'm not bored, I'm exhausted. I'm cooking for five, including two teens with big appetites and their own infections and conflicting food issues and frustrations (one on the edge of depression). In addition to managing all of our doctor appointments and medicines and the kids' other issues and my three part time jobs and a house that looks like a pigsty. And now I look and feel ridiculous on top of it. It is a visible and uncomfortable manifestation of my failure. (Mess up --> blow up like a balloon.) I've ground to a halt, and I'm paying for yesterday's small but unwise pretense at normalcy.

I am not rational today, lol. I'll be OK tomorrow, but I just want to throw in the towel today.

Cooking for a family would be tiresome, it is even for one if your busy, so I cant imagine. I survive a lot on healthy snacks when time is limited between my two jobs (one is self employment though, easier).

Looks like its time to train the kids lol.

Admittedly, I fall off my strictness now and then knowing by now what might follow the day after.!

Had chili last week two nights in a row (a high FODMAP). For two days, felt like a pregnate man ( a meer guess) / bloated racoon in the ditch lol. Choc almond milk (added sugar) will do the same (reg almond milk wont).

I never cheat with gluten though since lack of is helping my thyroid per feel and lab testing.

I can 100% sympathize with your frustration at not being able to just *eat*. I blow up at the wrong kind of food, even just a tiny bit. And this includes healthy foods that I've developed allergies to as well.

Dahlias - i can't remember - are you taking the persister meds (Dapsone and/or Daraprim) with Rifabutin for Bart?

I just popped my first rifabutin...starting Bart treatment...I hope I can handle this...RM didn't have me on dapsone at all... Are/were u on that?

Just a heads up - I herxed like I’ve never herxed before on Rifabutin.

I took it m/w/f week 1
And m/t/w week 2

Most of my cycles I had to postpone week 2 a few days because I needed to recover

It was always on the Friday evening (after my 3rd dose ) and the first time ever I’ve been I so close to going to the ER.
This happened on cycle 2
My husband had gone to bed (he works saturdays) and I stayed up - and a while later my arms started jerking (never ever had that before)
And then my heart started racing (never had that before either) - then I decided to take my temp and it was really high - if I’m remembering correctly - 103 F
And full body pain - even my head was sore to touch.
...and then my mind started to go to dark places as I googled all sorts of sinister causes for my symptoms - including Sepsis and the one that Dap or Dara can cause - methoglobenemia (spelled it wrong)
I could not sleep.
I didn’t have any Tylenol to take - because we never get fevers so I never buy it.

I woke my husband and told him he might have to take me to the ER
and he needed to call in sick for work.

He drew me an Epson salt bath and that really helped.
I went to bed and he had a camera on me so he could see how I was doing from downstairs

I could tell he was concerned which made me more worried.

It took the entire next week to recover - so I postponed week 2 meds until week 3
