@christian, I have heard great things about Dr J. I’ve seen a number of people report to have been cured by him and I’m a huge fan of his treatment philosophy which seems to be high dose antimicrobials. I saw somewhere he had a 95% success rate which amazes me. I know we really don’t hear from the vast majority of people who do get well and I really want to believe that figure. How long have you been ill and how would you rate yourself as a percentage currently? And how does he go price wise? I want to get it right first go because I don’t really have $10000+ to get it wrong going overseas and seeing a dud or getting the same treatments that have failed me here.
I can’t reiterate how close I am to well. I just don’t have access to a lot of drugs nor physicians who’ll treat aggressively here. I’m just very, very frustrated. Its been a long 3 years and I’ve put my life on hold to get well and this is kinda my last hoorah before I try and move on and just cope with my persistent symptoms whilst I wait for new drugs to be discovered.
@Eliz, just emailed you.
Thanks so much guys.
It can be frustrating. I am on my fourth doctor; well this one is a PA and certainly seems to be most knowledgeable about
Lyme.
I can't speak too much for myself because I am just starting Dr. J's protocol (first week). Someone else may come along who has treated longer. I was sick with Lyme as a child but "recovered" and symptoms started again in 2010 when I was about
26. Have used ABX with another doctor and went from hardly functioning to improving maybe 40% in about
4 months which was very big progress for me because of how sick I had been. I relapsed when I believe ABX were ended prematurely but am not as sick as I was. So, can't comment too much on Dr. J protocol because just starting but do think it is a good protocol and have heard great feedback about
it.
As for price, not sure about
Dr. J but I see one of his PAs in Asheville and a comprehensive first appointment was $450. Had to pay for some bloodwork also. Can do phone appointments from a distance. A followup phone appointment for 1/2 hour is $105. If things go well, once you get started, you may only have to have an appointment every 4-5 months. I guess it can depend on your situation. I think things are similar in DC, but have heard that prices are a bit higher.
Glad you're not extremely sick and hope you can get some help.
