How long does disulfiram take to show effects

I'm only 2 weeks in now and 1 week on 250mg/day. I'm wondering how long until a typical person may feel effects? I also understand I'm atypical

Everything I've seen says that DSF doesn't kill bartonella, is that still true? Quite frankly the only infection that has given me notable die off and that had any response to medication is bartonella. My condition didn't change afterward but it was still way more of an reaction than anything I've had to lyme or babesia. Wondering if a year of treatment with Dr M killed it off or if it's still lingering around

It has a delayed effect, but I was herxing after 2 weeks.

My experience was that it seems to stir up the bartonella but not kill it. I found that the bartonella would become active and I'd get itchy, then if I took minocyclne I would get the typical bartonella herx (dark urine, painful bloated abdomen).

Are you taking anything else for bartonella or just disulfiram?

I just had my first herx, a bit more of a headache than usual today. A bit less sleep. It's been 2 weeks since I started.

I had a course of bactrim a month ago and it didn't do anything for me, it was for sinusitis but I know it stirs up bart. I'm hoping that I do not have it.

I definitely noticed a difference when I started taking it at 62.5mg a day. I'm at 187.5mg now. I'm pretty sure it's working well.

Also the lyme reproductive cycle is when a lot of die off occurs as well. So that's around every weeks or so.

Quin- I am currently on disulfiram and doxy. Nothing particular for bart. Even though I've treated it for so long I'm still not sure if it cleared since my immune system and all....

I may get some houttoniya and add that in to see if I elicit a response. that would be telling

After a year and a half of treating bart with Dr M he said I've cleared it but who the heck knows at this point

Bartonella is usually susceptible to doxycycline, so it's not surprising you might get a herx from that, especially if you're disturbing the dormant cysts with disulfiram.

Hey Girlie- I'm having a little more anxiety and adrenal crashes this week. I'm not sure if I can pin this on the disulfiram or maybe I ate something off? Plus it seems like lots of people are having anxiety this week so I'm not sure what I can relate it to. Hoping there's a chance that DSF may have some effect on bartonella if I do still have it!

How are you feeling? You've had a rough past few weeks.

I just asked about this too. I have had a relapse of bartonella and after a course on Rifampin and Septra my doc wants to put me on disulfiram. She’s said there’s evidence that it works against persistent bartonella as well as Lyme. Theories appear to be mixed but she’s always steered me right in the past so we will see. I’m going to hold off until after the holidays though. For my own sanity!
