ive always thought as the body is resetting itself for the next day that there is some definite active exchange between gut and brain...and in my imagined scenario, our guts infected with bart or w/e, send signals to our brain which goes holy crap whats going on, flips us into fight or flight, cortisol and adrenaline spike, which sets off mcas....think vagus nerve is involved....doing meditation before bed can relax system some, and deep breathing to put us back into parasympathetic mindet and out of that MANIC mind of 2am....but if your battling something, whether pathogen or your own limbic system, your body is waking you up....,..
chinese med says 3am is liver time...and so when this started for me my NP gave me all this liver meds....which did nothing...i really think its our mind....dnrs helps some, but i think the dreading of it happening or the righteous indignation we feel when it happened AGAIN and we look at the clock and its the same exact time as last night needs to be avoided through mindfulness....adrenals are involved but i think better acceptance and a choice away from anxiety is the best chance for me...with my mcas, adaptogens set me off, but did help at one time...probiotics helped at one time too
