If I beat Lyme, will any damage from it be permanent?

Hello I was wondering, if I manage to heal my Lyme, could there be symptoms that don't go away even after the disease is gone? I ask that because I have severe blurred vision and joint damage in my ears which has severely messed up my Eustachian tubes. Is this permanent or do you think it will go away after I get rid of the Lyme? Are there symptoms that never go away even after Lyme is gone? Tell me your experiences and/or thoughts. Thank you.

The symptoms you mentioned could be bartonella. Are you treating bartonella, too, or just Lyme?

My personal persuasion is that if symptoms remain there is a cause. I’m not saying there can’t be permanent damage, but I think more often than not, it isn’t.

Remaining symptoms don’t necessarily have to be from Lyme or a coinfection. They can also be from viruses, Candida/yeast/fungal, parasites, hormone imbalance of various kinds, dysfunction and imbalance of pretty much any hormone system or body system. Often, our bodies need help getting right-sided again. Integrative doctors pay attention to these things and treat them accordingly.

The theory is that Lyme/co is what brings about all this dysfunction and that treating the infections will correct the dysfunction. In some cases it may, while in others it may require at least temporary intervention.

I feel like I am rambling here. Hope this makes sense.

My mom has has damage to her heart valves from Lyme. She was told she will need surgery to repair. I am sure some symptoms will linger to a lesser degree for years.

Thank you all for your advice. I have had this for 14 years. I definitely think I have bartonella as well, I have the severe neurological issues so that would make sense. (Brain fog, memory loss, fatigue, etc.)

I also suffer from severe nerve problems, weight loss, muscle weakness, spider veins all over, etc. too so that may be a combination of Lyme, bartonella, possibly other things, etc.

Any other advice would be appreciated.

Sorry to hear about the damage you have endured and your on-going symptoms, it really is a terrible disease.

I made this thread because I hoped the damage from Lyme might not be permanent and 90% of the symptoms would go away after treatment, so I wanted to hear what others thought about it and there were some encouraging replies here.

Yeah, I personally feel like Lyme and co infections are the worst disease someone can possibly get, but hopefully recovery is possible for me and others with the right regime and enough time.

if it's chronic (you have it for a long time - years), you won't beat lyme fully. that is why it is chronic. you can however greatly diminish its symptoms. but the damage will continue yet very much slowed down. .

Chronic doesn’t mean you won’t beat it fully. Chronic means you’ve had it for a long time - ie not acute.

Since my diagnosis I have seen people who have not sustained damage and are symptom free.
Some on this forum have - and also people I have met in person.

Yes it can do some damage - while you have active infection but once you’re in remission - the damage won’t necessarily keep progressing.
Ie if you had to repair heart valves because the infection damaged them - once you’re in remission - you likely won’t be damaging them over and over again.

Has anyone had patches of hair regrow after successfully treating Lyme?

Food testing is huge. Last week I "cheated" and ate a "cauliflower crust" pizza, which I know has flour in it - but I was feeling down. My knees, wrists and ankles became more inflamed and I felt terrible for three days. NOT WORTH IT. I'm learning.
