Those of you who can go out...

Ironically if there was a 100% compliance on wearing masks for say 3 weeks it probably would be pretty easy to say whether it worked or not. Instead the compliance rate is much smaller and folks argue they do or dont work.

I was in the hospital yesterday in Boston for some tests and the nurse who was waiting with me before the procedure talked about wearing masks in public. She said "God forbid I have covid and unknowingly spread it to others when Im out"

Its unfortunate that some are to stubborn or unwilling to bother putting on a mask in the presence of others nearby.. Or they see protecting others as against their rights...no, its being selfish. Like putting on a seat belt, Its no real burden.

I remember when some smokers got pissed when they could no longer smoke inside at work. After all, polluting others air was apparently their US citizen God given right.

In Los Angeles, we have many friends that have had Covid-19. Most didn't need to be hospitalized, but we have a friend whose 23 years old daughter was in the hospital for 6 weeks. We know 2 people who died from it and they were not elderly. Another friends mom just died in a nursing home from Covid 19 Sunday night. They basically just gave her palliative care once she got it, there was not much hope of recovery.

When I see people touting propaganda and mind control in the name of Jesus just because they can't be inconvenienced to wear a mask in a store, it depresses me. Especially in a forum full of people trying to improve their health and quality of life. I look at the list of scientifically unproven or statistically unlikely treatments that a lot of us have tried in the hopes of improving our chronic Lyme symptoms and a lot of them seem to have a lot less evidence of success compared to the data we have on virus transmission mitigation with the use of masks. But for some reason this issue got politicized and conspiracy theorized in the US.

If we had more cases I’m sure more people would be wearing them.
But it’s not the case where I am.
We watch the briefing daily and listen to her recommendations.

"Shut down" and wearing masks are two different things.

Most of this post turned out to be about masks. If people wore more masks, there would be less inclination towards "shutdowns", but as I recall from previous threads, you were also against masks. Wearing a mask is like wearing a seat belt, cycle helmet or safety glasses around machinery...all a minor inconvenience vs the possible negative outcomes. Yet some people continue to bark at the idea. As I remember, you also took peoples keeping 6 ft distance out in public as an insult to you. ....They care about health, theirs and yours.

Shut downs directly affect the economy, some obviously more than others. Restaurant and bar owners were screwed, yes. But there employees got almost double pay once layed off in many states.

Some schools adapted to online, some didnt.

Just like people say those who died had previous health issues....one could say retail business who closed forever had previous money issues. The fit survive on all accounts.

Liqueur stores remained open to prevent alcoholics from going crazy from withdrawals- this is why. They need to quit slowly, not abruptly. Lots of addicted people in society.

The whole thing is a lose - lose situation. If opened....more deaths, when closed, more economic issues.

Enough older people died to convert some old folks homes and senior living places into apartment buildings for all ages - truth from my local builder.

Fact is we didnt know how potentially bad this could be. The world was up against the unknown.

Anyone can visit an older cemetery some time and see many children's grave stones who died during the Spanish Flu of 1918-1919. Many under one year old. These are usually the flat, "economy" grave stones that are mowed over, this was also end of WWI, so very little time and money too. This is what could have happened- children dying in masses. No one knew.

How can one expect to state their opinions with out contradictory opinion?

As far as liquor store technicality- in many stores where grocery stores sell liquor, its not hard liquor, just beer and wine. Maybe not yours though.

Were pot stores in Colorado open? - I have no idea, but its an interesting question.

As far as medical being limited for others to use- yes, that was messed up in a major way.

Either way, I made plenty of other good logical points about the unknowns of this virus.

Most people who complain about government decisions could not do a better job either. Dont agree? Its impossible to please all, even on the local level. Try it sometime. With freedoms come the inability to decide as a whole. Western government can decide on anything that pleases all. Cant fix that, ...but there is communism which its not to popular for good reason lol.

Maybe government will learn from this? - Prob not....see above.

Why were schools shut but protests were allowed? Government controls when they think its possible (sometimes good, sometimes not) and knows when its something that will obviously get out of hand (protestors). Most schools are public, yet it were shut down. IRS was 90% shut down too. So it was not meant to close up the small business.

What we will probably never know is whether the death from all causes count this past winter and spring would have been normal compared to other years if we had not panicked and never locked down. The above video I posted talks about that possibility.

I'm still not sure how a death from all causes count for a specific month of this year would compare to that same month last year.

Yes, Girlie, it does seem a bit strange, though we know that increased testing will reveal more cases and that when you open up more, the virus will spread more. Don't know all the reasons. I've heard that people in the hospital in some areas are being tested every day, and whenever that same person tests positive, it counts as an additional Covid case, so one person could account for multiple new cases.

I've also heard that TX in May changed the way they count a new Covid case. They are now counting all probable Covid cases as an actual new case w/o having to have a positive test. There was video of a TX judge being concerned about how they would be viewed if this change brought about a spike in new cases.

The dashboard does not include probable cases there is a specific note in their even saying that. The case reports in the media report data from the dashboard. I dont know why someone went through the trouble to even write the article you linked too.

BC probably has less provincial/state cross travel than the US does. BC is a nice place to be and.... well, large towns East of there are spread out and minimal. Less personal travel? Does the higher populated Eastern Canada have more infections per capita?

In the US, one would think all of the cities that had large riots and protests would have the most increases, some did but certainly not all of them. Odd....so maybe it is the strain differences. And they talk about "super-spreaders".

Quebec is the worst - I think 55,000 cases and Ontario next - around 30,000 and Alberta third with 8,000.
Vancouver (BC) ‘s International airport has the most flights from China - we thought BC was going to explode because it took forever to close it. BC is just under 3,000

I think the Canadian population all has a common interest in protecting our free public health care hospitals and preventing overflowing ICUs.

Hospitals are a public service that we all trust will be there for us whenever needed. We all have ownership and some level of pride in our free hospital system, so the thought that a pandemic could compromise our system is not acceptable to most of the population. If we are asked to do something by our government to protect healthcare workers and prevent ICUs from overflowing, almost all Canadians will more than likely oblige.

if Canadian public feels a politician is threatening or compromising the health care system in any way, historically that politician becomes very unpopular, therefore all leaders across the country got on the same page and worked together to protect healthcare workers and the hospital system from overflow.
