CWL: I don't know why you weren't able to read the NYT article. I don't have a subscription either. I may have created a free account or something long ago.. can't remember...

The problem with getting your news from these sites that most people have never heard of, is these sites don't do real journalism.. and I won't defend the NYT for each of the reasons you distrust it (I have some of my own reasons). But there is a stark difference between the NYT and the site you just linked to. Here's the headline from your link:

"Florida hospital admits its COVID positivity rate is 10x lower than first reported"

The story actually originates from a local Fox News affiliate in Florida. The article just takes bits from the Fox News article leading you to believe that something totally ridiculous is happening. They don't ask questions about why the positivity rate is so high, they don't even tell you the other important parts of the story.. nothing journalistic about it... Just leave you in shock and horror from what you just read.

Apparently some of the smaller labs in FL weren't reporting their negative test results, just the positives.. big deal? No not really...

"FOX 35 News went on to speak with the Florida Department of Health on Tuesday. They confirmed that although private and public laboratories are required to report positive and negative results to the state immediately, some have not. Specifically, they said that some smaller, private labs were not reporting negative test result data to the state.

"The Department immediately began working with those labs to ensure that all results were being reported in order to provide comprehensive and transparent data," a spokesperson for the Florida Department of Health said. "As the state continues to receive results from various labs, the Department will continue educating these labs on proper protocol for reporting COVID-19 test results."

Sorry if it feels like I'm hammering away at this, but didn't your linked article lead you to believe that the above was true?

It did for me until I read the original Fox story.

That wasn't an accident. They avoided the obvious questions and cherry picked from the Fox story on purpose. They wanted to strengthen their reader's distrust in government institutions and maybe help create some new conspiracy theorists.

Please research these things a little before you post them because they have a habit of spreading like wildfire...

The chills and cough have stayed away 2 days now but I'm still really tired. And now, something new....no smell or taste, none at all. I knew this might happen since it has with a lot of other folks. Oh well, at least I won't be tempted to eat junk food.

Yes, I have been taking vitamin C. We just got a call from our daughter in northern Virginia who left here a week ago after staying a week. She and her husband have both tested positive and describe themselves as having cold-like symptoms. Our grandsons felt bad too but are fine now.

Feel the need to chime in again with some facts.

1: There has never been a successful corona virus vaccine. The "media" and "experts" are already backpedaling saying it might take several shots to build up immunity, even partial.

2: This matches some inside info I have from someone working a vaccine who was told they could have $10m per month to work on a vaccine but it must be an annual vaccine. If its not, don't bother doing it.

3: Yes people are dying and people at risk should absolutely take active measure to protect themselves until we reach herd immunity. The rest of us should have the right to choose if we stay home and cower or live normal lives.

4: Once Covid became politicized science went out the window. Once billions in cash came into play corruption was inevitable.

5: Unless you're willing to do your own research and know exactly what and how you should be treated if hospitalize, and have to guts to make it clear to your Dr that anything else is unacceptable, your treatment will be less than optimal.

Bill Gates is one saying people may need multiple doses of the vaccine.

Dr. Bartlett in below interview mentioned that Iceland broke down Covid and found it to have 240+ mutations already (Covid is rapidly mutating). He said that if they get a vaccine, it will not be a one time shot that will cure you. He mentions AIDS (rapidly mutating virus) and still no vaccine for it. He promotes early detection and effective treatments instead of a vaccine. Dr. Bartlett talks about vaccine in later part of this interview.

Respectfully Corona viruses are not new. There are dozens if not hundreds of them. Some cause the common cold. Some kill our beloved pets, Feline FIP, etc. Some attack farm animals. If someone could have developed a $50 vaccine to prevent thousands of animal deaths we all know pet owners would gladly pay it. Heck I'd happily pay cash for $1000 vaccine to prevent the common cold. Again hasn't happen. Science isn't on our side and given the track record with modern pharmaceutical companies and vaccines, I'll take my chances with catching covid.

Are you high risk? Fine, give me your shopping list and I'll do all I can to protect you. But there are 35 year olds with essentially zero chance of death or serious repercussions cowering in their homes because all they get is fear mongering from every media source and politician. No one is hopeful. None of them are providing factual information, just except inflated death rates/counts and a "cases" counter that's as useless as the proverbial boobs on bull because there is no context to any of it.

I have been following this since before the lapdog media cared to report it because all they wanted to do was attack Trump at every turn. I'm not even a Trump fan but the journalistic malpractice going on is far more infuriating/dangerous then the virus itself.

I live in PA and if you knew any of the disaster that our state has become because of both medical and journalistic malpractice your head would explode.

It seems you're doubtful about a vaccine, and at the same time hopeful about herd immunity. I think there's a conflict there.

When you catch the common cold from a coronavirus (sometimes it's a different kind of virus), you don't get a 'durable immunity' to that coronavirus. That coronavirus eventually mutates, and you can catch it again. This is why we don't have herd immunity for that strain of virus that can cause the common cold. THIS IS ALSO WHY it's difficult to create a vaccine for that specific coronavirus.
But as I wrote above: "...the last I'd heard was that the spike protein had not been seen to be mutating (yet?).. and as long as that stays the case, a vaccine that targets the spike protein has a good chance of being effective."

Regarding your other point: If you're at high risk, maybe you are 'cowering' according to Merriam-Webster. Most of those who aren't at high risk "35yr old" etc, should be trying to avoid being vectors for the disease themselves. They should be responsible members of a society in a pandemic. When you say they are "cowering", it sounds like you're trying to belittle them.. like calling them sissies or something. I'm interested in hearing different opinions on how societies should handle this, but it's always going to have to be a group effort. Offensive language is counterproductive.

Going in for the third round of testing today. Grandson is fine the rest of us have mild symptoms but could be something else. We are also hitting the vitamin c pretty hard and continuing the BVT.

We were supposed to go down to WV this summer but I guess we'll have to wait until next year. We were going to go to the Green Bank Radio Observatory and walk under that big bridge that is on the WV state quarter. Our daughter used to go to WVU.

comparing sars-cov-2 with hiv in this way is just stupid. Have u heard of many people that cleared up hiv infection and are healthy? Almost none. With corona 95% patients recover and develop immunity. So protecting antibodies are achieveable, any convalescent corona patient is a proof of that.

please let's not compare this with hiv. hiv is a virus that multiplies in our immune cells, destroying them. it is perfectly adapted to human/monkeys. covid is just a bad animal coronavirus that comes from animals not related directly to humams, so not adapted to human immune system, it triggers a bad inflamatory reaction that kills ppl.

they will resolve that overreaction of the immune system with drugs long before a vaccine will be available.

I think you missed my point or maybe I was to vague in my comments. I did say if you are high risk I will absolutely help you stay safe. I have a high 70s couple next door who are high risk who I regularly shop for. And I will continue to do so as long as is necessary. But they are not cowering. They are actively protecting themselves in the best way possible for now.

Cowering is the 35 year old in good health who won't even go out for take-out because the "bag" might infect them, because that's what CNN said. Have you seen how terrified they are in the UK that can't come within 30 feet of someones else's house or they call the cops. Or the folks in their cars wearing masks. Or the lady up the street from me doing yard work in blistering summer heat wearing a mask. That's cowering.

Its wrong and its been criminally perpetrated by the media, pols and big tech.

So again, high risk, protect yourself. Low risk, get on with your life. The health repercussions from lock-downs will kill more than the virus does.

mpost, you'll have to listen to the video to actually hear what the doctor said (I think last 5-8 minutes of interview). The only comparison (that I gathered) he was making between HIV and Covid was that both are rapidly mutating.

I’m thinking it’s because they don’t want to put it on, take it off, put it on etc.
So they put it on at home and don’t touch it until they’re back home and have washed their hands.
