herxing, first round of antibiotics.

Hey everyone. I was bitten in late June with rash and started doxycyline a month later at the advice of my integrative md (300 mg day/20 days) because i had joint pain. Also taking biocidin and I tried some old interfase plus from a candida protocol a few years ago.. I only have 3 days left on the abx and I *just* started to herx prob due to interfase plus. I've had temperatures (99ish), pain in joints/tendons has worsened, started to sleep poorly. Have tried charcoal/magnesium and drinking lots of water. Feel miserable and sorry that i messed with biofilms.

I also feel super anxious- did I not start antibiotics early enough? Will this be over soon? Trying to trust in God and let him take over as I feel this is much bigger than me.

Thoughts? I'm desperate to beat this.

Welcome to the forum!

Starting treatment within a month is quite early and your chances for a quick and full recovery are high.

Do not stop treatment until you are symptom free - plus at least 4 more weeks.

I suggest you get some more antibiotics ASAP. You still have symptoms.


You should also find a LLMD and schedule an appt. Be sure to tell them that it’s a relatively new infection and you need an appt.

Thank you for your reply ! Your words give me hope! I’m seeing my doctor again this week. She’s a well known integrative md in nyc who knows a good deal about Lyme. I actually tested negative for it but she decided that based on my symptoms I needed treatment and she suspects bartonella as well. She said 1 round most likely wouldn’t be enough , so I guess I’ll see what she has up her sleeve.

Echoing Girlie, you began to treat in the early stages, so as long as you treat until symptoms are gone plus a few more weeks, then you should be fine and most likely will not end up with a chronic version of Lyme. It's great that you trust your doctor, but don't be afraid to ask questions and push for what feels best to you.

Thanks, saraeli. I think my doc is thinking of putting me on a herbal complex (artemisinin/myrrh from medi-herb/standard process) but I'm wondering if the best course of action would be to continue doing doxy? I will definitely discuss it with her. All I know is that I am not done with this darn thing but I'm determined to wipe it out!!!

If the doxy is working - continuing on it is a good idea....
You can add herbals as well as you wean off the abx.
