Some other things to consider. Heart disease kills about
647,000 each year and about
600,000 people are estimated to die from cancer this year. When they say Covid might become third leading cause of death, it may mean that Covid deaths may top let's say accidental deaths for that day or that week (perhaps comparing to previous year's accidental deaths).
There were claims of Covid being the leading cause of death and the third leading cause of death back in April and May.
Also, when numbers are reported, it doesn't always mean they were all from that day or that week. Some reported death numbers included an accumulation of deaths from the prior two weeks to two months or so.
