this was among the first five results

Exactly. Just read how its worded. CNN calls them "mostly peaceful". NYT calls them "protesters who are galvinized by the federal prescence." They're rioters and looters and feds wouldnt be there if they werent there looting and destroying first. Once again, a liberal trying to convince me of my "lyin eyes". Yet the right are the ones who lie. Its comical.

For 3y we were told Trump colluded with the russians to swing the election, an asinine claim. Zero proof, investigation went no where. You're nuts if you think he actually conspired to do that, yet for 3y thats all we heard about. Non-stop 24hr new cycle ranting and raving about this obviously false claim. Turns out the Obama DOJ were the ones who committed the crime by obtaining FISA warrants based on faulty information. Barely covered, no one cares. Its ridiculous. And now Clinesmith has plead guilty to altering emails about the investigation, and where's the coverage?

My son seems almost recovered. It has been 8 days. Somehow, I have not gotten sick (nor have my 2 daughters and husband). I thought for sure I’d get it bc he was coughing in the car when I took him to get tested - probably about an hour total time in car.

Three of my family members also contracted from a birthday dinner. It’s strange how some are getting this and others not.

potsnpans, perhaps it is because Covid has become highly politicized, and the left-slanted media is trying to do the same with Covid as they do with "peaceful protests" and "Russia collusion".

The same media that is blowing the Covid threat out of proportion is also downplaying the dangerous riots and intimidation. A certain party will no doubt benefit from this kind of reporting.

I know we shouldn't get into politics more than necessary, but with Covid being so politicized (probably mostly because of election year), it's hard to keep the politics out of the conversation.

No problem w you Pots, youre always respectful. But this Lapis cat is not here to discuss lyme or
science either...not really. Lapis is just here to sneer at conservatives. That’s why I got political. 47 of his last 50 posts are on this specific thread - go ahead check his history, and they’re mostly just him accusing CWL of linking to “goofy” right wing news outlets and sneering at them for being so stupid as to believe a right wing talking point. You can feel the condescension and superiority of his big brain just jump through the screen at you.

So yes I got political, but I’m not the first person here to do it, and quite frankly I couldn’t handle it anymore after watching this charade go on for over a week. CWL has gotten nothing but condescending responses and attacks, and doesn’t even get upset, just comes back with more information and thoughts and articles. You may not agree with CWLs covid viewpoint, or politics, but I’ll be darned if you don’t admit that’s one heck of a respectful person on the other side...person being the operative word.

We should be striving to depoliticize covid (sometimes difficult I know). Trafficking in that other stuff is totally unnecessary.

Right, because CWL often posts links to extreme right wing sites which are simply not the best news sources for medical news.

They just are not. Facts.

Today he posted a link to an actual scientific study which I congratulated him for, we need more science and less politics.

It seems unusual to me as well (as a layperson). Of course we know it's highly contagious.. maybe there are only certain stages of the infection when it's highly contagious...

A few pages back CWL posted something about 'T-cell immunity'. Maybe K07 you have some kind of protection from previous exposure to cold viruses...

And I also still wonder about our susceptibility as chronic Lyme sufferers. Could our immune systems be more likely to protect us from infection? I personally haven't had a cold or flu in years and I've heard many others say the same..

What's been reported, but not widely because it disproves the media fear-mongering "children are high risk narrative" is that for unknown reasons younger children are not especially good spreaders. In families it is almost universally parents bringing it into the home and giving it to the kids. Younger kids rarely, if ever spread to adults (RE: New York total lockdowns for kids but they kept getting it.) In your case everyone likely got it from the same person and you had "not-ideal" conditions for it to spread to you. Accept the blessing that you didn't get it and were able to care for your sick.

1,000 people a day are dying of covid right now in the US, that number has held steady for over a month now

so a bit of alarm is certainly called for. Nothing wrong with caring about your fellow humans

Isolation is a great thing. I work from home and even before Covid I was very aggressive about self protection. I keep hand sanitizer in the car for after the gas pump or any shopping. Washing hands frequently if not perfectly. The only time I ever got sick is right after the outdoor shows we sell at occasionally where there are 3-5k people indoors in a place the size of a medium sized Wal-Mart. (Not sure a mask would even help there.)

As an aside, I know 4 people including myself that swear we had it in December. I've never had a 2 week dry cough like that ever, and all the rest of the mild Covid symptoms match what we had. So again, you might not even know you had it. And since the Chinese refuse to release facts surrounding Covids actual release date, we'll never get an answer .

Where have you ever heard "children are high risk"? I think I follow the news cycle rather closely as well, and I've always heard the opposite. If anything there are reminders that children can still get sick (as in it's possible), even though the likelihood is much lower.

I don't know how you got the idea that I didn't care about my fellow humans. I ask how much do you sacrifice before it becomes counter productive. Is mourning dead you don't know while thousands of others suffer, or their future suffering could be prevented by the simplest action helpful? The bigger picture rarely matters to most people but that's all I see because it helps the most people.

Does high viral load have to equal high risk of transmission though? Maybe some (or much) of what they measured was inactive, or maybe fragments of the virus... Considering the other studies, there does seem to be something to the idea of children having a lower risk of spreading...

Also would've been nice if they broke the age groups down a bit. 0-22 includes some who are technically adults.

Interestingly enough the US has done WAY WAY less than nearly every other first world nation in regards to Covid.

Germany, Japan, Italy, S Korea, France, NZ, Thailand, V Nam, etc etc.

all of those nations had a much stricter lock down, WAY more contact tracing, higher rates of testing per capita, etc

And oddly enough they all currenlty have about zero deaths per day of covid.

So not sure what you think should have happened here.

Lapis: That seems to be the same article word for word, with an inclusion of "key takeaways" at the top...

So they are saying explicitly that a high viral load means they are more contagious. Still curious..
