Is Tinidazole difficult to tolerate?

Hi,
I'm just curious to hear experiences with Tinidazole.
I need to decide between Rifampin, Tinidazole and Grapefruit Seed Extract.
However, I can't tolerate Rifampin. And Grapefruit Seed Extract might interact with other medications I'm taking.

I don't have lyme but parasites and I took tinidazole for a long time so I'll share a few things. I took 3 x 500 mg for several weeks, then upped it to 4 x 500 mg. I always took rather large amounts of alcohol-based tinctures with it without a problem. I did not particularly try to space the alcohol and the tini either.

I did not get side effects or any problems besides candida issues. These are unfortunately rather persistent. I took tini with Dr Yu and he always had me on Rx antifungals. Fluconazole at first, then combined with Nystatin, then Nystatin alone because of resistance to the Fluconazole but combined with Byron White A-FNG (which I found very powerful). After both medications had ended I continued herbal antifungals for a long time. A year later, I feel like I probably still have some low-grade candida. I've been on a low glycemic index low sugar diet all this time. I don't know if it is just hard to recover from several months of tinidazole or if is because of my weakened immune system (which will likely be similar for folks with chronic lyme). Tinidazole is bad for the GI microbiome because it so effectively wipes out anaerobic bacteria. My understanding is that it has a much stronger effect on anaerobics than e.g. doxy or beta lactam antibiotics or macrolides or even cephalosporins (this is why it is one of the three in a triple ABX combo for undiagnosed life threatening infections - a beta lactam for gram positive, cephalosporin or similar for gram negatives, and tini/metronidazole for anaerobic bacteria).

I can't take Reishi as it is too stimulating for me (keeps me up and jittery at night) and many antifungal herbal blends contain Reishi. What worked well for me is origanum oil capsules (these are also fairly systemic). I also took different formulas with calcium undecylenate or undeconic acid, e.g. the one by Klaire Labs (which is fabulous) or Candida Cleanse by Balance One (also great but seems to be unavailable right now), and of course the Byron White A-FNG. Right now I am taking Kyolic Aged Garlic 102, 2 capsules BID.

Speaking from my own experience only, Tindamax was incredibly difficult and I had to stop taking it altogether after two days because of the potent reaction. That being said, I’ve reacted poorly herx-wise to almost everything. I would put tindamax on my top 5 for bad herxes.

However this shows that it was likely doing that something great with die-off, so it could be very effective (and tolerable) for you!
