I personally have worried about
metals being the source of my inflammation and backup in my methylation and chemistry for a long time.
I've been diving deep into this the past week or so. Here's what I've learned. Outside of the Andy Cutler Chelation FB group, there is another group called Mercury Chelation. It is littered w/ people who got much worse tryin Andy Cutler. I was speaking w a gentleman yesterday who believed himself to have amalgam illness. He chelated for several months with low dose ALA+DMPS. Somewhere around half a year in something went wrong and he said that he suddenly found himself "10x worse, unable to function and very close to ending it all". There was a young man in the ACC group 3y ago who killed himself. One person told me that ACC is fantastic for 75-80% of the people who do it, you just dont want to be in that bottom 20%.
Most of these people who get worse make their way to other groups and methodologies. It seems that lots of people in that "Mercury Chelation" group are able to make progress with natural detox and binders, or some of these newer heavy metal detax tools like clinoptilolite or OSR#1. Those seem to be the two big ones.
Like I said, I've worried about
this issue forever. I too have double MTHFR, screwed up gut, messed up Doctors Data metals test, and just a general feeling like something is gumming me up. I also got much worse in february after having my amalgams removed. I've always been too chicken to actually try chelation. Pretty much everything stimulates my autoimmune disease, and neuropathy is just hard to handle, so the thought of stirring up metals and aggravating it and dealing w/ redistribution is frightening. But the fact that TRS (clinoptilolite) seems extremely well tolerated, and you the fact that you can use it with amalgams in your mouth, makes me want to give it a go. I bought some, plan on giving it a go in a few months once I'm settled into this diet nicely (I also just restarted ivig and dont wnat to make too many changes at once). Just my $.02, no idea about
any of it. If you told me it turns out that ACC was the only way, or that I dont have a mercury issue, or even that heavy metal poisoning was a total myth, i'd believe any of it, the whole thing is a mystery to me.
