I am holding a bag of Maine Coast Sea vegetables Irish Moss Powder which states that there is 876 mcg of Iodine per teaspoon.
Thank you, Seb4. I appreciate you taking the time to look and share the information.
That amount is 584% of the U.S. Recommended Dietary Allowance (RDA) of 150 mg for non-pregnant and non-lactating adults over the age of 19, but still under the Tolerable Upper Intake Level (UL) of 1,100 mcg for adults over the age of 19 -- including those who are pregnant and lactating. (?)
Recommended Dietary Allowance (RDA): Average daily level of intake sufficient to meet the nutrient requirements of nearly all (97%–98%) healthy individuals; often used to plan nutritionally adequate diets for individuals.Tolerable Upper Intake Level (UL): Maximum daily intake unlikely to cause adverse health effects.Iodine: Fact Sheet for Health Professionals (National Institutes of Health, Office of Dietary Supplements)https://ods.od.nih.gov/factsheets/iodine-healthprofessionalI've always read to be careful about
getting too much iodine, whether in food and/or supplement form. It appears the acceptable range is wider than I would have imagined, based on the above website.
