TUDCA Dosing - how much have people found useful ?

am trying this at the moment based on several people here saying how helpful it was for them.

i am hoping it may help with what seem to be liver pain issues( mildly elevated liver enzymes on LFT also) and perhaps gut health issues and sleep.

i had been taking milk thistle extract around 700mg 2x a day for a month but saw v little benefit so have replaced it with TUDCA for a month or so as a trial

so far at 250mg 2x a day - so 500mg a day max

but i see studies of it used at doses of 500 to 1750mg a day or more short term

i wondered what doses people here have used and how long it took before they noticed results ?

I don’t recall the mg per capsule. I take one capsule morning and evening. If I feel I need it, I have taken an extra capsule either with the normal dose or mid-day. I have used two brands - Microbe Formulas and Nutricost. They are not the same amount of TUDCA. MF is a formula and seemed to work better for my needs.

I was not having organ pain or elevated liver labs. Rather, it was helping me with symptoms of mold toxicity and MCAS.

the microbe formulas one says the following - but does not specify exactly how much TUDCA
it just gives a weight/dose the combination. the label says ...
"TUDCA (Tauroursodeoxycholic Acid), N-Acetyl Cysteine (NAC), Extracts of Humic and Fulvic Acid, Melatonin 300mg "
so I would guess around 200mg to make room for the other ingredients

the nutricost is 250mg - which is what most other brands are also

so it seems like I am on the right track regarding dose - but cant say I have noticed any great change in any symptoms after about 1 week

i likely have some degree of MCAS - i think most people with Lyme do and i am reactive to some foods
so any impact to that would be a welcome benefit

Hi Garzie- I took 500 mg of TUDCA daily. If I'm remembering correctly it was 2 pills on an empty stomach (first thing in the morning).

I was taking 1000-1200 mg of milk thistle throughout treatment with DSF.. drinking assorted detox teas, eating dandelion, etc.. just looking at my notes now, I realize my enzymes were trending down before I added in the TUDCA. Here's the full story:

Early in my treatment with DSF, ALT and AST were both pretty stable (low-mid range). Then about a month after increasing DSF to 125 mg, one test showed both ALT and AST had suddenly jumped into the mid 50s (top of ranges were low 40s). I never really had liver pain.. maybe a slight discomfort from self-administered Murphy tests.

So it wasn't a huge spike, but nevertheless I reduced DSF dose from 125 mg back down to 62.5 mg daily. In 2 weeks enzymes had started to come back down so I increased DSF to 125 mg daily again and started on TUDCA at the same time.

The next test was in 2.5 weeks and it showed ALT and AST back in low-mid ranges.

I continued to increase DSF to 250 mg daily, and over the next 5 months all tests continued showing ALT and AST in low-mid ranges.

At the time I attributed the addition of TUDCA to allowing me to continue treating at the higher dosages, but can't say for sure that is correct. I don't really know what caused the apparent spike..

I must've been reading about other's experiences with TUDCA lowering liver enzymes and leaned towards that as the explanation. The research is pretty strong as well.

yep - i would tend to agree that's the most likely Pots - Thanks for sharing your experience with it

though the other thread with the lead content disclaimer statement makes me wonder if lead is a risk with all TUDCA - I thought it came from bear or ox bile - so unsure how the lead is getting in there - may be in the feed if feedlot cattle - i shudder to think!

The CellCore Biosciences site has some generic dosing instructions here:

As you likely know, CellCore Biosciences is the sister company of Microbe Formulas. If you look on the labels of both brands, you'll see the same company address.

I think Microbe Formulas products are sold directly to consumers, whereas CellCore Biosciences products are generally sold through practitioners, though I have an account with them to buy directly.

Anyway, always be sure to compare labels between brands for each product. Mostly, I think the formulations are the same, but I've not compared labels for every product, so there may be differences. If in doubt, contact the manufacturer directly. I've found them to be responsive and helpful.

I think the brand that mentioned lead has lead in it because they are using brown rice flour as a filler.

Almost all rice contains lead.

Recently I had what I thought was liver pain on and off. Milk thistle didn’t seem to help. I’ve since found out it’s my gallbladder. Have started taking GCG and it started easing symptoms right away, feeling a ton better at only a week in. May be something to consider, I guess it dissolves gallstones.

thanks for this - but GCG is a new one on me - what is that an acronym for ?
i did try to look it up - but Google didn't help me much.
do you mean EGCG - like in green tea extract?

It’s short for gold coin grass. It’s a Chinese herbal supplement. It’s been amazing for me. Best of luck finding something helpful!

AH - OK great - thanks for clarifying

as it happens - i did use Gold Coin Grass once before - but that was a long time ago now - and before I knew anything about Lyme - was having issues with Gall Bladder attacks ( perhaps linked to latent Lyme even then ....?) - and Gold Coin Grass was a remedy to help dissolve and clear gallstones. I am not sure how much it helped as I did a bunch of other supplements to help break up stones at the same time or in the following weeks ( boldo etc ) along with liver flushes over a period of about a year and i did pass a calcified stone and it did finally clear up -

but this seems different. not acute attacks after fatty food - just recurrent pain mainly at night when i haven't eaten anything for a long time - and i can tolerate lots of fat in my meals without an issue now. i also had an ultrasound done a few weeks ago and it was fully clear - no sign of gall bladder disease anymore, no thickening of the gall bladder wall - or bile ducts - or stones.

the liver had no bright spots or obvious cysts/ abscesses either - so I was thinking maybe its just a bit inflamed from Lyme/Bart infection ( common) and maybe the TUDCA would help that to some degree - now wondering if its more like some kind of SIBO like effect

the pain is always in the same place -under the right rib and sometimes central as well - and occasionally i do feel a sensation like gas moving around and some moderate easing of the discomfort - hence wondering if it could be a kind of SIBO just centered in a particular stretch of the intestine that lives there - but i am clearly guessing

I took Tudca from Bio Body half a capsule a day for 8 days that would be around 125 mg and didn't feel too well. then today Saturday I took a full capsule 250 mg, and within 2 to 3 hours I started feeling restless and shaking and Digestive problems (flatulence) Headache and Fatigue and Mental health disturbances (anxiety, depression, sleep disorder) please can someone advice.
