Xabian,
Yes. You can still be sick 4 years later from that exposure. Getting a mycotoxin test would not be a bad idea. Also, even if it comes back negative, your symptoms and lack of response to treatment could still be related to that mold exposure. Some people have difficulty removing mold toxins from their bodies. I also believe that exposure can alter something in people’s bodies, but it’s not clear to me what all that involves or how to recover from it.
Have you taken Cholestyramine? That is the gold standard binder for mycotoxins. Some recover well with it. Others don’t find that much improvement, and still others find it way too strong causing unbearable herxes.
If you are interested and able, I would consult with a doctor who is experienced with mold as well as Lyme to get you on a productive path to recovery.
Lisa Petrison, who Adam mentioned, has a great website with information about
mold illness and recovery through extreme mold avoidance. One aspect that you may consider is possessions. If you are living with possessions you brought from that trailer, you could still be exposed to the toxins by way of those possessions. Mycotoxins are difficult to remove, and some like trichothecenes, are nearly impossible. The Realtime test measures trichothecenes.
Considering the circumstances of your exposure - it being from a leak and your removing the flooring exposing a large contamination - you likely were exposed to Stachybotrus, which is commonly called toxic black mold. It is the most feared and most dangerous. It produces trichothecenes.
