How do I treat when abx destroys my gut?

Hi guys,

I visit here every now and again. I have Lyme and strong Bart symptoms. Have a seriously inflamed vagus nerve. Was treating w/Rif 150 mg’s twice per day & was really helping and herxing. Until it trashed my gut-candida city.

Really bad runs. Don’t tell me probiotics. Of course I was taking them. The Gut Institute 100 billion and saccharomyces boulardi. I’ve just been on so many ABX’s this is the result. How do I continue treating? Thanks!

You can’t treat until the diarrhea stops.

My daughter took antibiotics for close to a year, three different kinds at a time, until her gut could handle it no longer. She has not been on them since end of 2019 but has plenty of herxing from other treatments such as herbs and homeopathics. We spent 2020 (and still working on) rebuilding her gut and trying to heal not only damage done from abx but still trying to get a grip on the infections as well. Best wishes.

I’m not sure, mines a mess too. There are prescription probiotics though just FYI they have even more probiotics

A lot of LLMDs are well-versed in treatment approaches that include non-pharma approaches. Has your provider talked with you about all the other options? There are so many. Or are you hoping to continue with pharmaceuticals?

I have been treating off and on with abx for many years. Obviously, individual responses will vary.

In general, I've had success doing this.

* Probiotics daily at least 2 hours after abx dose. If you take abx 2 x day then take probiotics 2 x day. Take probiotic before bed to allow probiotics to populate your gut with it's contents.

* Nystatin or other anti-fungal with treatment

* Fiber rich whole foods diet. Stop intaking simple sugars and juices. If you eat sugar have it be a fibrous fruit. Even then, don't eat too much fruit. (Balance your sugar/carb intake with your activity levels) Try to incorporate large diverse salads every single day into your diet. Bonus points if you can do it twice.

Yes - I try to stick to that - especially the dose at the end of the day - last thing you take.

I also try to take different ones - I have three different ones I take daily.
And in addition I will buy Kefir a few times a month to add to my others’

I forgot to mention this is a Marcons infection in my head. But I’m mold negative. So the treatment and antibiotic is specific. Has to be Rifampin. Herbs won’t even come close to touching this. Believe me, I’ve tried sida acuta, cryptoleptis, houtynnia. Not even certain antibiotics or antiparasite drugs. Fluoroquinolones are out of the question, not opening up that can of worms. Thanks anyway for the suggestions! 😊
