Update: Just hit the 7 day mark. I plan on going for a few more days. Back pain has improved a bit. I had some muscle relaxers which ive crushed up half a pill and put in water and taken and it got rid of pain for 12-16hrs, so seems like its a spasm.
Other things I've noticed: Insomnia is better now. Got a bit winded going up the stairs to my apartment. Have lost 8lbs, it appears its probably quite a bit water weight.
But the amazing part is the effect on my nerve pain is just amazing. I'm barely having any pain now, knock on wood, which hasnt happened in 2y since this began. The only sensation I'm feeling is the numbness on my feet, which is actually improving on this diet. I actually felt some sensation on my toes as they brushed across the blanket, which are normally mostly just numb (unless I go so far as to get a pin and prick them to see if i can actually feel anything, and even then its minimal). So basically i want to stay on this a few more days to see how much more feeling can come back. My god its amazing to have a little feeling down there, and it makes me so happy to actually know that the feeling can come back. You read about
the fact that small fibers can regenerate themselves, but you dont believe it until you experience it. They always say these things grow back at 2mm/day, and you wonder then why the heck your feet are still numb. It seems like its because as long as the inflammation is still there, aint nothin gonna happen.
All of these positives being said, my expectations are tempered as I know at some point I will have to eat again, and the inflammation will come rearing back. Unless I can somehow figure out how to heal my microbiome and this leaky gut permanenty. I'm hoping to go from fasting to a more healthy eating again, so maybe I can do exactly that.
W/ the gut bacteria levels so low, now is the time to work on rebuilding the microbiome. I will be adding in PHGG/Inulin to feed the healthy bacteria, and eating a lot of fiberous vegetables and low carb fuel, but I'm not sure if I should be adding in probiotics as well. This would be the time for them to actually have a shot at colonozing, but then again I havent had such great experiences w/ probiotics, often causing flares. I may start w/the L reuteri yogurt as I reacted very well to that one.
