Mosquito Concerns

They drive me nuts too, they really put me on edge.

According to Dr. MR's website, he doesn't know if they transmit Lyme, but he does list 3 studies that show that they can carry Lyme. And he says he has patients that got ill after a mosquito bite. So I would think they can carry other tick borne infections too, but, just like Dr. MR, I don't know if they transmit it.

There's so little research on it, it's frustrating.

Besides the things you listed that you are already doing, I really don't think there's much you can do.

They aren't attached as long as ticks, but who knows maybe they leave more infected saliva behind in a shorter time.

Taking doxy for 6 weeks after every mosquito bite isn't really an option either.

And something like a snake bite kit, to suck the mosquito saliva out, is probably useless, given that the injection site probably closes too fast.

Sorry I wish I could help more, I was just thinking out loud looking for a solution.

I would treat every mosquito bite just like any other tick bite. It's like a tick on wings.

Boehner also recommends applying some kind of special paste directly onto the bite site.

I know there has been some buzz here (excuse the pun) about mosquitoes being capable of transmitting Lyme and other traditionally tick-borne infections, and of course there are plenty of infections everyone agrees they do spread to humans.

This year, the mosquitoes where I live have been extremely bad. I have gotten more bites in the past month than in the previous ten years combined, if not more. Yes, I am wearing long garments and repellents and not going out at dusk and not in the woods or near water, etc. They're just everywhere, all day, sun or shade, windy or still, even when I'm walking briskly. I'm mostly venting at this point, but they're driving me nuts!

Anyway, do folks have any post-mosquito bite remedies they use to keep themselves from contracting things from the bites? Is there even a way to prevent or mitigate the possibility of infection?

Over the years the amount of things mosquitoes can transmit is just scary. Heard they can transmit bart. I came out with a positive percentage for filariasis which if I'm not mistaken is from mosquitoes and causes elephantiasis! How can that be I dnt have it never have

Okay, for some reason, if I take artemisinin after I get mosquito bites, they all just stop itching. I don't know if it's actually doing anything, but it helps me because I tend to scratch mosquito bites until they bleed and get infected.

To prevent them, I use eucalyptus oil, citronella oil, clove oil (mostly for ticks), and what I've found, is that I can mix them with an oil like olive oil, so it stays on my skin longer. I usually come back from a run covered in dead bugs. Everyone else complains about insects, but I haven't had any trouble.

Of course I stay away from really wooded trails and wet areas, and things like that. One note: bumblebees love clove oil, it seems. Luckily, I'm not allergic to bee stings, so I just end up being the pied piper of the bumblebees! It's better than having a cloud of flies. Peppermint oil repels ticks, but attracts flies.

There is a small fan smell emitter that you can carry or put on a belt, table ect...several versions and skeeters hate it, it works.

Outdoor stores even Walmart has them. Thermacell.

My aunty lives in Spain and she said the government have put warnings up at the beaches as there’s been a huge tic infestation and a ton of Lyme cases ever since. I always thought beaches were safe! It’s almost as though the ecosystem is fighting back.
