Over the past few weeks I have been trying to tweak my diet a bit after suggestions to try a keto diet. I haven't done a proper keto diet but overall just reducing carbs and only eating a few foods. Working my way in the right direction.

For the past 3 weeks maybe I've basically just eaten chicken, broccoli, carrots, blueberries, healthy oils (Coconut, olive, flax seed), and small amounts of almond tortillas. I've estimated daily carb intake to be about 100,125g. Not exactly low carb but I dropped a few packaged paleo goods, other fruits, etc. tried to be more low FODMAP etc.

I have not noticed any improvements, but for the past few years I feel things just fermenting in my upper gut. This doesn't happen too often or consistently, and I don't really have any other gut symptoms besides this sensation of things just sitting in upper gut and bubbling around, not digesting. I also have had a lot of rectal issues and just saw a proctocologist, who said I have an anal fissure caused by pH issues, loose stools, something about fiber in diet.

I don't have CFS, but I thought it was very interesting and basically went down the rabbit hole about how humans are designed to survive on meat and fat.

I was thinking about just trying the carnivore diet because I don't have much to lose at this point. Has anyone tried or had success with this? Also I am curious if some of these cooked veggies like broccoli, carrots, etc just aren't able to be digested and are being used for fuel by bad bacteria in my upper gut. Any thoughts or carnivore/ keto experiences are appreciated.

Ketogenic has helped my neuropathy a lot. I did carnivore for a while but I notice I do better w lots of steamed leafy green veggies. My SIBO and digestive issues are gone

My ecoli is low according to my GI maps (accurate?). I’d like to experiment mutaflor again. First time around I think my dosage was too high. It’s supposed to be a great probiotic and I know people doing well on it.

My urine ph is still quite low and my uric acid is high. I def have an acidity problem. Sodium bicarbonate lowers the uric acid and raises my ph.

Subfiber/PHGG also helps as a prebiotic. I got my dad on it too and he has diarrhea unless he uses it

Ketogenic diet has helped me possibly more than anything else i have tried. And i have tried a lot.

For my partner who was ill with the same thing. It was a complete game changer and seemed to drive her recovery almost on its own. She was v v strict though. Just meat, eggs, fish, olives and salad. So near to carnivore.


For both of us nuts were an issue. But not because of allergies as far as i could tell. Just the fibre i think. Triggered bloating, GI discomfort, fatigue and also mood issues for my partner.
Almonds and coconut in particular. Walnuts and cashew nuts a bit less.
Makes me wonder if the nuts in your current plan could be driving similar.

i wanted to add that despite being a healthy fit person all my life, worked out, mountain biked, played squash, hiked etc - after 4 years with Lyme / bart i suffered a prolapsed rectum out of the blue. something 90year old ladies who sit in a chair all day more typically suffer from, not relatively robust men in their 40's.

after some more reading i found that there are a good number of references to issues with "descended colon", bleeding from the rectum and similar issues in people and lab animals with Lyme - so i assume its related. my fiancé also had some kind of anal fissure since birth that would occasionally re-occur and it did so periodically while she was ill with lyme.

i suspect this is what is the cause of your issues also - perhaps by its collagen weakening effects - of perhaps some other form of inflammation - bart causes Colitis also which can cause ulceration of the colon and rectum

good topic garzie. i had blood on toilet paper for 20 years now. sometimes it stops and then a few days later it starts again. i dont know the distinction between a lot of the terms involved such as fissures/hemorrhoids/ulcers/cuts etc. ive been too embarrased to go to the doctor so ive just been living with it for that long. its usually not a lot of blood but it is something that seems to come and go. its not on my stool itself, its something on the outside of my body. probably something that keeps tearing open.

yep - i have exactly the same thing - have had for years.
fresh pink blood from tiny smidge to a few drops - for a few days at a time - then nothing for a few weeks.

it is worth going to get it checked out though - as blood in the stool can be a signal of something more concerning - and for those things - the sooner you treat the better. please do not put it off out of mere embarrassment.

if it helps - ref the embarrassment - i thought i was having a particularly bad attack of haemorrhoids - other people in may family get them - and did not want to go and show my anus to my doctor - so put up with it thinking it would pass.
however this turned not to be haemorrhoids but instead my rectum had prolapsed and the longer it went on the more blood got pumped into it and the more serious and painful it became.
i tried creams and ointments - all to no avail
finally i had no choice bit to go to the doctors

there the kindly old gent diagnosed it in 30 seconds positioned me on all fours with my bum in the air, then proceeded to manually push it back where it belonged without any anaesthetic - and warned me of the pain that would arrive in 30mins - not my proudest moment - and he was not joking about this last part !!

embarrassing? - yes - but entirely my own fault for not doing the sensible thing straight away - and actually i was fortunate in this instance it was nothing very serious.

Garzie great to hear you and your partner have had so much success with diet. Did you notice and sort of “Keto flu” or adjust period when switching over? Does your partner need to supplement electrolytes or anything?

garzie you inspired me to go get it checked. thank you. i will update this thread when its diagnosed. might take a few months due to circumstances, but will make sure it happens.

honestly - only a bit of keto flu type feelings - maybe a bit more head aches, fatigue maybe some food cravings - but i felt so awful anyway it was not a big deal - and after only 2-3 weeks i already felt the benefits and it started to just be the normal routine - after 4 weeks it felt entirely normal

we both found we need to add more salt than before - but this is often the case if you stop buying any processed food - so we just used high quality sea salt and added maybe 3-4 generous pinches to our meals - and that was enough.

other than that - nothing special was required
