Hi all,

Do you think it’s possible to herx on meds you’ve been on for over two months?

I’ve seen a few doctors say that herxing happens upon starting a new med or increasing one, does that mean symptom increases thereafter are merely flares?

I herxed upon starting the protocol I’m on now, eventually levelled out and had some improvement, then just over 2 months later was hit with massive symptom increases again. I’m trying to figure out what’s happening, could it be a herx, or maybe a flare from overdoing it once we start to feel a bit better?

No, I’ve been taking Clarithromycin, Rifampicin, Doxycycline and Malerone for over two months. I’ve been on Clarithromycin and Rifampicin for a long time, but had Doxy introduced and restarted Malerone as 6 months of it previously didn’t do the job. I’ve been taking Serrapeptase for around 3 weeks.

After adding the Doxy in I herxed badly at the two week point, then it settled, didn’t seem to herx at first on the Malerone this time, it just gave relief. After everything settled I had improvement, more energy, was able to go for a walk, then 5 days ago woke up with a huge flare which hasn’t settled at all so now back in bed :-(

Would love to know what’s going on.

Yes, it's possible for treatment progress to go up and down.

Also, serrapeptase breaks biofilm so it's possible "too much" biofilm got broken down at the 3 week mark. Sometimes when treatments are stuck LLMD's will add Serrapeptase or Lumbrokinase and it's like starting treatment all over again, because of everything that escapes the biofilms.

There are also quite a few viruses going around. I've noticed with Lyme over the past years that sometimes one can be sick with a virus without really realizing that's what it is. Seems to just blend in with Lyme symptoms sometimes.

My guess is that it's the serrapeptase/biofilm thing though,...

Thank you, that’s helpful I hadn’t thought of that. I was under the impression it was a weaker one and because nothing happened when I started it didn’t expect it to.

A herx can take a while to build up. It's most common when there's a change or increase in antimicrobial treatment, yes, but can also happen when your detox pathways or overall reactivity is increased by other factors (allergies, stress, constipation, liver stress, etc.).
