Back again...and looking for some advice

If you are averse to pharmaceutical antibiotics, then you could start Buhner's suggestion of astragalus twice per day for a month to treat a recent tick bite, or maybe begin the core Buhner protocol for six weeks or so, just in case. I definitely understand the hesitation about antibiotics, as for me they are not an option due to allergies and truly intolerable side effects.

That said, it might be nice to have a prescription in-hand so as soon as you hear back from the lab that's testing the tick, he could start taking doxycycline if he chose to at that time. There wouldn't be much harm in doing the single dose (better than nothing) being offered, but I agree that's probably insufficient for preventing many cases of tick-borne illness.

He has done the Doxcy course, but new protocol is only one dose/two 100 mg pills at same time. Doctor won't prescribe more.

I've been putting salve of: activated charcoal, bentonite clay, Thieves oil and Andographis on bite.

If tick was on for four-five days (worst case scenario) and that was a week ago - will Doxcy still be beneficial?

1-2 doses of doxy as prophylactic after a known tick bite never had any good evidence behind it as far as i know

more like a sort of "need to be seen to be doing something" type measure from a medical profession that largely does not believe tick borne disease is a big issue.

i would say either don't do ABX or do the whole course - at least a few weeks or for several weeks after all symptoms resolve

the gut problems from abx are drummed into us by functional medicine people.

if you are truly super healthy with zero gut issues - then i think there is a good argument to minimise their use - but in the context of chronic lyme - a disease that messes with your gut in a bad way anyway - its different, as, your gut and microbiota will be messed up anyway, so there is not much to lose in my view
i was v reluctant to resort to antibiotics because had followed functional medicine before i got lyme - but my gut was better after wards if anything - and i wish i had used them sooner - as it could have saved me years of lost life.

unfortunately - we know the longer the infection has been present ( if it is present) the more established it will become so i don't think a day of Doxy is likely to do very much if its been present over a week. i don't think any one knows this relationship in detail, in terms of day of doxy vs days of infection - as as far as i am aware no one has done the research ( would be very difficult) - so if it were me i would err on the side of caution and give 4 weeks of doxy or minocycline or other lyme abx

note - i do not know your sons age - but doxy can discolour children's teeth so normally an alternative is used

i think its mainly when doxy is given when they are still growing - maybe under 16 - caused black / grey staining of teeth

doxy is a decent bet as it covers more possible infections - rather than only Lyme - which is why its normally the default

You could get some from AllDayChemist and I think it wouid take a week or so to get them.

Yesterday I talked his GP into a longer Rx. He will take Doxcy for 14 days then we will get him to Kansas clinic.

I get full tick report Monday. What I received so far is: Nymph, on abut 48 hours an partially engorged. Ugh.

We will wait and see...
