Possible Reaction to Amoxicillin

For the dentist today, I had to take amoxicillin because of the heart valve I had replaced. In the lats hour or so, I've become so fatigued, I can hardly keep my head up and eyes open.

Had always considered amoxicillin a milder antibiotic, but this sure feels like it's impacting something. Or maybe it's something else. I have been taking non-killing herbs, and no antibiotics in the last-three months. Would it make sense for this to be a herx even on amoxicillin? Thanks. Not sure what is what anymore - Lyme or Sjogren's.

Amoxicillin can just make you fatigued as a side effect, unfortunately. Maybe it's just that?

I remember reading on the forum years ago that Amoxicillin interferes with the ability of bacteria to form cell walls and then other antibiotics can work better, That's why I wondered if it might cause fatigue or could be something else. Has it made you fatigued before, saraeli, as in you feel sure it was the amoxicillin?

I think it's a possibility that the fatigue is just a side effect of the amoxicillin because fatigue is a side effect of several antibiotics and because you felt the symptom only a few hours after taking it, probably too fast for your system to be overloaded by endotoxins from any dead bacteria and cause a herx.

I have not taken amoxicillin for any length of time because I am allergic to all the antibiotics in the cillin family. (It caused me a fever and hives.) I just know it causes fatigue for others sometimes.

I'm sure it's possible that something else is going on for you instead, but for a reaction that fast, with no other changes to your regimen, I would just suspect a side effect of amoxicillin as the most likely explanation. I would not think it's an allergy unless you develop other symptoms (trouble breathing, throat swelling, hives, fever, etc.).

Unless maybe you are reacting to something the dentist did? Or to the stress of going, if applicable?

Funny you mention fever. about two hours after I posted, I noticed I felt hot and checked temperature. Had a mild fever, which I rarely do anymore. Since it was just a one-day take, I will see if it all settles later today. Thanks for your good observations, saraeli.

Amoxicillin is a strong killer of Lyme. Especially if u haven’t used it for a long time. Plus, u said u haven’t been on abx for months, so could be a big hit.

When I haven’t used Amoxicillin for a long time, I just take one 500mg in the morning and I don’t take another pill until the next afternoon. Otherwise I get smoked by the die-off.
