I had Lyme disease about 5 years ago. Bit by a tick and I got the rash. Put on doxy for over a month and never really had much problems. I had been bitten previously but never had a positive test, but had some symptoms like achy joints. I have been diagnosed with shingles last year. I got a rash on my back and great pain. A year later I am still in pain and nothing seems to help. The pain is in my spine and radiates out to one side or the other or both. The reason I think it's Lyme is because the pains vary so much. Some times more on one side sometimes up further or down further on my back. The doctor took another lyme test and it came back neg. so he said it wasn't Lyme. I know from experience with my grandson that those tests mean nothing. All the doctors in my area do not believe that Lyme comes back, so after the terrible experience with my grandson, I am not going to press the issue with another doctor, they won't listen. Just wanted to know your opinion, do you think it might be the Lyme coming back?
I'm only 24 now, 21 when I first got sick, was extremely strong and fit, never had a back injury or pain in my life, and within 6 months of becoming symptomatic I developed lower back pain so extreme I was unable to stand for more than about
5 minutes. The pain was so intolerable that even in public places like the supermarket I would have to squat down and pretend I was looking at items on the bottom shelf because I was literally unable continue standing for more than 5 minutes at a time. I went from being able to squat 315 for 1 rep to not being to stand.
Personally I think it's the Babesiosis in my case since the lower back pain returns only with other symptoms that are classically babs, like the hot flashes and some others. And in your's it could certainly be either the Borrelia (lyme) or also possibly the Babesia. (about
75% of Lyme patients have it). I've had shingles as well, but I cant say that I ever personally experienced back pain from it.
You're right, the test are pretty much bologna. They can rule in Lyme, but cannot be used to rule it out, but unfortunately it sounds like your doc has not kept current with LD diagnostic best practice recommendations.
