I've read on this board a lot about alcohol intolerance with lyme disease and was just wondering if there were people with lyme that alcohol does not effect negatively. Just curious.

I'm thinking no for sure. Our livers are already working much harder to clear all the toxins produced by our multiple infections, that the time needed by our livers to clean alcohol from the bloodstream is going to be far longer than a healthy person.

My symptoms were not that I felt awful, but a few SIPS into the cocktail and I would feel the effect of it very quickly. Hence, the liver not liking it much-

Myself, major alcohol intolerance. Muscles and limbs ache as soon as alcohol goes in.

On the plus side, a few light drinks gets me tipsy fast, hence its cheap. Haha. One or two drinks per year max is what I seem to have had.

On a serious side, our body, liver, and immune system is already under strain. I couldn't think of anything worse than adding to it with things like drinking, smoking, drugs, or other unhealthy things.

I have an allergy to alcohol, so I avoid it, but I do drink Kombucha, which does have a small amount in it and I do fine. It provides enzymes and probiotics. Some day I'll make my own.

I finally just gave it up altogether. A half a drink and I'm bombed and then feel like crap. It's just not fun

I happen to be fortunate and have no problem with alcohol. I don't overdo it though. I usually have two drinks when I go out. They are strong ones also. I drink vodka. I am fine with it. Thank goodness. LOL. With all my issues in life at least I can enjoy that.

sigh, I used to drink vodka too, just one or two cosmos when I went out.

 here's the thing, beer, which is my favorite, affects me the most. as soon as I start drinking one, I start to feel poopy. I have found I can drink dark wines a little. but I don't like all the classiness, beer look more at home in my doublewide! lol

I found the mold in most wines would make me react; if I only have a half a glass I can sometimes tolerate a Savignon Blanc that was aged in steel with a screw top. But even that lately makes me feel off

All red wines esp aged in oak will trigger an asthma type coughing attack

Last month I took a 4 week break from antibiotics... I could drink wine like water and I didn't have any bad reactions or anything. Also, I didn't wake up with a horrible hangover like I would last year. It was so great.

Towards then end of the month, I started to have cocktails with rum in it. Still, nothing bad. Felt great to be buzzed and forget all of my symptoms.

Then towards the end of the month, I drank beer (which I never do) and the beer made me feel like blah and really bloated, bad headache. So I stopped, and now I'm back on all my herbals and new meds to go after Bart.
