I just wanted to clarify something: I read on a different forum that the western blot shows antibodies for other things besides lyme like the epstein barr virus (ie mono). This made me worried but I think this is slightly incorrect. The western blot for lyme shows antibodies FOR LYME. I'm guessing you could do a western blot for mono to detect mono antibodies. But you couldn't do a western blot for mono and test positive on the mono western blot just because you have lyme. My western blot tests have all said "for B. Burgdorferi" next to each band... which is why I suspect that this western blot is specific for ONLY lyme and not other diseases. I have also heard that if you're getting tested for other things the lyme can make your tests false positive. Is this true?
I think my problem now is that I am reading too many things on the internet and I am literally scaring myself silly!! I am worrying about things so much I'm losing sleep. Can someone please tell me that I am correct about this?
