4 year old now has pain when urinating...help!

Hi all,

My 4 year old has been on treatment for babs, bart and lyme since June 08. Now he says that his penis hurts when he urinates and afterwards. It still hurts an hour later, so I am thinking it may not go away. His urine looks normal.

What do you think this could be? He gets 3 probiotics per day. I have been recently worried that his bartonella drugs are not working due to anger and behavior issues, so do you think this is a possible bart symptom?

If you had this, what did you attribute it to and what med worked to clear it up?

TB: You can buy a urine test kit (bought mine at CSV) at a pharmacy to test for urinary tract intection, I would definately do that seeing how there is pain. Test kit is only around ten bucks or so and is just a dip stick. Would save you a trip to the doctors as I know how kids hate that.  D

tickbattler, I am sorry your son is having problems.  I agree that it could be a urinary tract infection.  They can cause pain when urinating.  He should be tested for this.

Are his behavior issues constant or do they cycle?  Make sure you let his doctor know.

Dowa and ticker - thanks for your replies.

Thanks so much for the info on the test kit! I will do that next time now that I know about it! We did have him checked by the pediatrician and he was fine. The pain seemed to come and go through the day.

I ended up asking Dr. J (my son's LLMD) for a med change to address what I think is bartonella and my son started it on Saturday. I hope I'm not imagining this, but my son seems to be improving already. There was no pain in his penis since starting Rifampin and his anger symptoms were much better today.

I am very hopeful that the Rifampin will bring my son back! I am almost sure his bart is the big problem now.
